My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is a COURTESY post.
The 2 wonderful dogs you see are not at Skyllers Dog and Cat Rescue however all info about them can be obtained by completing the online application which will be found at WWW.Skyllers.org then you can click on adoption application and follow the instructions. If you are having a hard time with the application,.. please call 508-923-1115 and someone will help you out.

Sam and Dixie are brother and sister who were born: June '08
Sam is a neutered male (80 lbs) short coat in the pictures
Dixie is a spayed female (65 lbs) longer coat in the pictures
Food: we currently feed Merrick dry food. Approx. $60 for a 40-50lb bag. The dogs will go through about 2 of these a month. We buy 2 "flavors" at a time and mix them in a large plastic tote. They share 3 cups in the a.m. and again in the p.m. Food stays out all day with clean water.

They have had NO formal training. They are good, not great, on a leash...but could be awesome with consistent training. They have also had some training with E Collars and responded well. We should have kept this up and been more consistent.
FULL DISCLOSURE:

During her physical exam...Dixie showed trace lyme disease during her blood screening. She shows no signs or symptoms, but at some point may need medication. She is a feisty, strong, happy girl that loves to lick, lick and lick.....

The male has a very protective nature of his sister and caregivers. A new family should be aware that he needs to be under full control, especially when in the presence of other dogs. He is the biggest reason that we need to find a new home for our buddies....We live in a neighborhood that had no dogs when we adopted, and now has 6 or more dogs. In an effort to protect his sister and us, he has lashed out against other dogs....in our foolishness, we walked him off leash, and he has pursued these other dogs and caused us some frustration with the neighbors. He should be walked on leash when the presence of other dogs is ever possible. He is not a good candidate for a dog park. However, he LOVES us and his sister, and even several dogs of our friends that we have introduced on neutral ground. He has a friendly relationship with a female jack russel, male rhodesian, and several other dogs. Also, both dogs have boarded in the past. We board them TOGETHER, and we can recommend two kennels that we have used in the past without any problem.

They would LOVE a fenced yard and an individual or family that will spend time with them on a daily basis. They are NOT high maintenance pets, but do require attention and consistency in training and discipline....

I could write a book about the last four years with these two wonderful dogs. She loves the car, he doesn't. She sleeps upside down, he steals all the toys....She'll sleep on your bed or couch, he hates stairs...I could go on.

Please help us find a wonderfully caring and affectionate home for these two.
