My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The Cairn Terrier mix is a perfect combo for those with who are searching for an extremely smart and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...they're famous for their great temperaments and extremely loving and snuggly ways. They're trustworthy and gentle and great family companions!

Jasper is beautiful. His sad shelter photo doesn't do his adorable Terrier face with the wise and expressive eyes justice at all. A sudsy bath, grooming and great nutrition (together with lots of love) will bring back the stunning coat that speaks of the Cairn breed. We'll update with a post-shelter photo that shows Jasper's cuteness as soon as we receive it.

Jasper, as a young Terrier, will require exercise and mental stimulation (as all dogs do). He loves being with his people...so if a hike or neighborhood stroll is the order of the day - count Jasper in! Terriers are known to run joyfully and energetically along the trails of the Colorado mountains...and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines.

Jasper is an engaging guy who favors the coat and intellect of the Cairn while taking on the very friendly and bright qualities of the Yorkie. Jasper appears to be a non-shedding or very lightly shedding pup and will therefore require periodic baths/brushing and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy. As he loses the old hair of his shelter days, Jasper's golden coat will grow in shining and less likely to lose hair.

Jasper's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. He makes close playmates everywhere he goes. Jasper may be initially shy...give him a bit of time and his very sweet and social nature comes out.

Jasper hopes that everyone he meets ultimately becomes a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Jasper's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending in a smile. If your lap is available, up Jasper goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Jasper is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of the Terriers. At about 9 - 12 months old and 15 lbs, he seems to be capable to leaving behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. Jasper is blossoming into a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Jasper in a home that includes him in family time, activities and positive reinforcement training class. He's a blank slate and will become a well-behaved adult dog with kind/clear boundaries and group training classes. Jasper will thrive in a family that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. He would be a wonderful companion for active retirees or an adult family with older kids who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly sweet young pup. Jasper doesn't require another dog to be happy...he would gladly be the one and only. He does play well with most smaller dogs and could (once comfortable) have a great relationship.

Jasper will arrive on transport in Boulder on 1/8/16. If interested in this very loving and devoted best friend, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
