Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Let's take a minute to talk about Arthur. You see, Arthur is yet another sad case of what happens when animals don't receive the care they deserve. Arthur has tested positive for heartworm, and has a particularly severe infection. Heartworm is a parasitic roundworm that is spread through bites from mosquitoes carrying the heartworm larvae. When an infected mosquito bites a dog, the heartworm larvae are transmitted to the dog's bloodstream. These larvae mature into adults that can grow to 12 inches long and take up residence inside the dog's heart. Heartworm treatment is a very lengthy, and very costly process that can take several months to run its course. During the treatment period, Arthur also has to be kept to a strict low activity routine, so as not to stress his heart. What makes this situation even more heartbreaking is that infections of this kind are very easily prevented through a monthly chewable pill - a luxury that Arthur never received (until now). Fortunately Arthur is one of the kindest, most loyal and affectionate dogs we've ever had the pleasure to know. Everyone he meets - be it children, adults, other dogs, or even cats - become his new best friend. You simply can't help falling in love with this very sweet soul. Not treating Arthur was never an option for PCHS, and although he won't be ready to leave the shelter until late Spring 2016, we would love to have a forever home in place when that time comes. Do you have it in your heart to give this loving boy the home he has always deserved?
