I am already neutered, a special needs pet, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.
Poe is a sweet little guy that has had a few tough breaks in his short life. He was brought into SCDR as a foster in 2014. He had a pretty severe case of demodectic mange at that time and his owners couldn't get the condition under control. He was left at a local animal hospital. He was treated for the mange and once he was cured he was adopted. After being in that home over a year, we were contacted by the adopters and told they wanted to return him for recurrent demodectic mange. When we first received him he was a mess. His little feet were macerated due to general poor hygiene and hair matted into them. He couldn't stand to have his feet touched. He could barely walk on his back feet. His body hair was a matted mess. We were told that he had been taken the groomer monthly. The evidence was contrary to this. His hair was matted so bad and his feet caused him so much pain he had to be sedated to shave him and try to tend to his feet. He was once again treated for demodectic mange. His foster is experienced with skin conditions, and suspects that he has allergies, especially to fleas. His feet were treated with soaks and eventually healed. His hair has grown back. He will require a home that will provide for his special diet and careful observation of his skin condition. He will require regular treatment with Bravecto to prevent tick and flea infestation, which will also help prevent another outbreak of demodectic mange. He may require monthly vet visits for steroid shots to treat allergies. Through all this he has been a sweet playful guy that gets along with cats and dogs. He loves his toys. He is crate trained and potty training is in progress, if you are attentive to take him outside. He loves to sit and cuddle. He deserves a very special home, if you think you can provide this home, please contact us.
All foster pets have seen a vet. Dog's adoption fee includes up-to-date shots, microchip ID implant, free rabies vaccine, and free mandatory spay/neuter. All dogs live in foster homes during the week like regular pets and work on socialization and manners. Many are from local animal controls so their housetraining history is unknown; puppies are all working on housetraining. Come meet our adoptable dogs during our adoption events each Saturday and Sunday afternoon at Lubbock Petsmart on Slide Road. Not every pet comes to every adoption event, so make sure and call or email if you want to meet a specific pet. Many pets are not yet listed on Petfinder.com.
