My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ROOKIE: 9 months - 1 Year Old 50 lbs Yellow Female Lab/ Mix

"There I was cruising around the neighborhood trying to find my way home when a really nice lady stopped to help me. She took me in to her home, put up signs and took me to the vet to see if I had a chip to find my family. After a few days, trying to help me plus her 3 other dogs and a backyard remodel, she realized I might need somewhere else to stay and reached out for help for me so I didn't have to go to the shelter. Lucky for me, a foster family for GGLRR saw the post and offered to take me in. We tried everything to find my family from Fido Alerts, Facebook posts and even filed a found dog report at the Martinez Animal Shelter. It's been almost two weeks now so I think my family must really be lost. There is no way they could just forget about me - after all I'm totally adorable and I try to do exactly what I'm told! It's hard sometimes though since I'm still learning. I think that's why my foster family named me "Rookie". They also have 3 labs that have been showing me the ropes like where to go potty and what's ok to chew, and um, what's not ok to chew on. I know I'm new here but being part of this family has really made me understand what being an inside dog is like and it's pretty amazing. I sleep in a crate and since I'm still learning, have to stay in a crate if my foster mom leaves to run errands. I'm working on learning how to act like one of the big kids but I'm still young and nobody really taught me so I get a little confused when she's not home to show me right from wrong. I love being here but can't wait to find my new forever family!

Foster Report:

Rookie settled in immediately to our home and was obvious she came from a family home. She knows some basics like "no" and sit. She feels horrible if she makes a mistake and hangs her head in shame - it's so cute we feel bad for being upset with her but we know she needs the discipline. She is mostly house trained but still has the occasional accident if the back door is closed. She is very sweet, very playful, socializes really well with other dogs and children. She still jumps some so may not be a good fit for small children. Still needs some work on the leash but loves to go for a walk. She's gorgeous and will melt anyone's heart!

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
