Hi, my name is Tess! I’m a sweet and gentle little girl that loves life and everyone in it. I’m a small beagle mix weighing about 18 pounds. I was rescued from an Ohio shelter so not much is known about my past. My veterinarian guessed my age to be between 3-5 years old.
My favorite thing in life is cuddling up with my foster parents. I follow my foster parents around the house and will crawl up on their laps the second they sit down. I love the resident dog in my foster home and I will give her kisses whenever I can. I really want to snuggle up to my foster canine sister but she isn’t the snuggling type. I would love to find a home with another affectionate dog that I can cuddle with when there are no human laps available. I’m not food, bone or toy aggressive. I don’t chew on anything around the house. I’m learning how to play with doggy toys. I walk well on a leash. I’m a quiet girl but I do have a loud bark and will bay when I see people and dogs walking outside. I would be good in an apartment as long as the apartment is above street level so I can’t see the sidewalks.
I will sometimes cower down to the floor when approached from above my head and can be startled with loud noises. Even a loud sneeze from my foster parents will make me nervous. Since I get startled easily I probably wouldn’t do well around young children or in a very active or busy household.
I’m still working on my potty training. I had several accidents when I first arrived at my foster home but I’m getting better every day. I’m crate trained and working on keeping my crate clean while my foster parents are gone. I’m currently up to 3 to 4 hours in my crate without having any accidents! My new family needs to be home, most of the time, to continue my training. I do very well at night and I will sleep the entire night in my foster parent’s bed, without getting up or having to go potty. I’m usually the last one to get up in the morning!
A week after I arrived to my foster home I got very sick with a severe case of hemorrhagic gastroenteritis (HGE). Thankfully, my foster mom rushed me to the ER and I was admitted to the critical care unit for two days. I received great care at the hospital and was feeling better in just a few days. I’m now back home with my foster family and have made a full recovery!
