My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**UPDATE: ADOPTION PENDING**

Rocky is a Miniature Pinscher, male, 9.5 years of age. Rescued from Monroe County Animal Control, Rocky currently lives in a Monroe SPCA foster home with other dogs and cats. A healthy dog now, he has been treated for a Giardia and a severe skin infection.

Looking to start a new life, Rocky came to us anxious, timid, and uncertain as to what to expect from people. Now a happy, confident dog, unmistakably a Min Pin - lively with animated expression, interested and looking to be involved, fawningly devoted to his people, either busy or snuggling under his favorite blanket – noble, self-possessed, and indeed, having the saucy, terrier mindset – Rocky wakes each new day to begin again his joyous celebration of all things a life well-lived brings with it.

Social and friendly, somewhat more comfortably outgoing than the “typical” Min Pin (as if there were really anything typical about the Min Pin), Rocky can be a little shy with strangers and initially reserved in new situations, but he warms quickly with cues from both, his people and his environment. Extremely affectionate with people he knows and trusts, bursting at the seams with pride when he accomplishes something new, and readily revealing his sweet, wholeheartedly sincere, entirely trusting nature when comfortable in his surroundings, Rocky needs a responsible, caring owner who wants to ensure his continuing success by providing him with the structure, leadership, time, and attention he needs and deserves for the rest of his life.

An active, inquisitive, determined, and still very playful senior dog, Rocky’s exercise needs are pretty modest and can be met with regular walks on a leash (which he loves) and romps in the backyard for exploration and interactive play. Because of his small size, adventure-seeking mindset, and inclination he will have toward protecting his beloved family (which can get him into trouble), Rocky must always be in a safely secured yard or area and/or on a leash when outdoors, and he should always be accompanied by an adult family member – under no circumstances should he ever be left unattended outdoors for any period of time.

Intelligent, quick to learn, eager to please when he knows what is expected of him, polite and always well-mannered, Rocky lives for companionship, he loves to cuddle (when he deems it’s appropriate), and he’ll want to be included in daily activities and be close to his much adored family members as much as possible. Always cheerful with a totally can-do attitude and larger-then-life personality, this gentle, mild-mannered boy is also highly sensitive; and while, like all dogs, he needs clearly established rules and boundaries, he will simply languish and become depressed with any form of harshness including tone. An outstanding family companion who looks to “his people” and aims to please at every turn, Rocky is a quick study who enjoys learning new things and responds well to positive, upbeat training with treat and praise motivation.

Rocky is best-suited for a home with a calm, laid-back to moderately active lifestyle. Like many dogs, particularly those of the toy breeds, he has the potential to become snappy, timid, or even depressed if not protected from active or unruly children or any forms of harsh or disrespectful treatment, so even though we know he is comfortable with and well-mannered around children in general, we will be selective in considering a home placement with toddler-aged children.

Rocky enjoys the company of compatible canines he has been properly introduced too, and he gets along very well with the felines he currently lives in a foster home with, but a meet-n-greet with any housemate pets will be necessary prior to adoption. Rocky is also crate-trained, housebroken, and extremely well-mannered when riding along with “his people” in vehicles.

You can meet Rocky at Monroe SPCA adoption events and by pre-arrangement with approved Adoption Application. All Monroe SPCA dogs available for adoption and in foster homes have an adoption fee of $200.00. This fee includes the dog being spayed or neutered, HW negative, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, and micro-chipped prior to adoption.
