Hello, my name is Queso and I am a cute pup. I am 9 years old and weigh about 9 pounds.

Life in a home is very exciting and sometimes scary. I come out of my shell every day and get to do a lot of fun activities. Some days I go to work with my foster mom and other days I stay at home up to 9 hours in a gated area. My foster parents leave me potty pads that I can use when they are gone and I go outside. I do great with a routine.

My favorite thing to do is to eat, chew on raw bones and sleep! Now that the sun is out, I love to bask in all it's glory. During meal time, I will wiggle my whole body. I am a champion wiggle butt. I have luxating patellas (pretty common for my breed/size) and there's nothing that needs to be done about them right now, except avoid long walks. They definitely don't stop my butt from a-wigglin' around.

I sleep in bed near my foster mom and will lie on the couch with her. I have learned to love pets! It's so nice to be loved.   I can be nervous around people and do best when folks approach me slowly . I would LOVE (and require) another small dog companion. They can continue to teach me how to be brave. And I will teach them how to wiggle. I live with some pups right now and enjoy being their little shadow!

I am a sweet little pup and simply want to learn about all the joys of life. I would love to learn about them with you if you have space for me in your heart! Whaddya say!?

Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs.

Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance.

The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website:
Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.
All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at if you have further questions.

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  and fill out a foster application.

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.

About Underdog Rescue MN

About Our Rescue Group...

Underdog Rescue and Placement was founded in 2000 by Shannon McKenzie. Having volunteered for several other animal rescue organizations, Shannon saw a need to help the dogs and cats often overlooked by other rescuers, the “Underdogs”

Our very first rescues included a pair of black kittens named Fenway & Wrigley, a pitbull puppy named Lucy and a tiny Toy Poodle named Lily (who was suffering from a head injury). No other rescue groups would take Fenway or Wrigley because black kittens are often overlooked by potential adopters, and, up until the time we rescued Lucy, rescue groups had not been allowed to rescue any dog considered to be a “Pit Bull” from Minneapolis Animal Control.

While in law school, Shannon McKenzie had the “anti-pitbull” policy changed, with the assistance of Attorney, Marshall Tannick. Underdog Rescue continues to successfully rescue and place pitbulls and other “bully-breeds” through a continued partnership with Minneapolis Animal Control.

Shannon’s dedication to the Underdog also extends to puppy mill survivors. Dogs that survive life in a puppy mill often come with a different set of challenges. They may require additional medical care, socialization and teaching of basic dog skills even though some may be adults. Our volunteers understand this and welcome these pets into their homes to show them what life as a dog and life with kind humans is like.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are considering adopting one of our pets, keep in mind that we have several policies regarding placement.

We only adopt to homes within 60 miles of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Only on a case by case basis do we place female dogs in homes with current female dogs.
We will not place our pets in homes with unaltered animals.
We have a strict NO DECLAW policy, where adopters must agree to never declaw adopted cats. For more information on declawing and its alternatives, please visit
We have a lifetime commitment to our animals, all adopters must agree to return their pets to us if placement is not deemed successful.
We strongly encourage continued socialization and formal obedience training for all dogs under the age of eight.
If you have children younger than 5 years, and do not already have a canine in your home, understand that adding a dog or cat will be like adding a permanent 2 year old to your responsibilities. For this reason, we will only place our pets in homes with children younger than 5 on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind that completing an adoption contract means you understand that all adoption fees are non-refundable.
