My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I hesitated before checking the "special needs" box. Her needs really are no different than any other kitty - a safe home, good food, and lots of love. But she is positive for FeLV. She had numerous bite wounds and abcesses when we got her, so she likely came into heat very young and was bitten by a positive male cat. Being positive for FeLV does not mean she is sick - she just has the virus in her, and it may affect her immune system. Cats with FeLV can live normal lives if kept indoors and pampered. The scary thing is that there is an unknown - many FeLV cats die of cancer, and it can come on suddenly (because cats mask problems so well, we don't know they have a problem until it's too late). She could live for 20 years or break your heart in 6 months. But that's no reason to sentence her to death now. She deserves to have the life that she is meant to have.

Layla has bunny-soft shiny black fur and is one of the most affectionate and cuddly little cats I have met in a long time. She would really like another cat companion, but it would have to be another FeLV kitty, as the virus is contagious by sharing food bowls and mutual grooming.

She is spayed and current on rabies and distemper vaccinations, and has received the usual flea and worm treatments. We are of course looking for an indoor-only home for her, and require that the adopter have a cat carrier for safe transport.

No set adoption fee, and Campus Cats will pay for her vet care at our vet (Good Hands in Athens, GA) for the first year in her new home as an incentive to get her adopted!

Please consider this little girl! Contact Kelly at feralcatcaregivers@yahoo.com to meet her.
