This absolutely stunning dude is Huey Lewis!
Huey has more than just stunning good looks going for him! Though he will need to be house trained since kennel life is all he's known, he's crate trained and walks well on a leash. He plays great with other dogs and loves people. He's good with kids, but because he's so big, he might inadvertently knock over smaller children. Huey's good in the car and totally LOVES to play and run in the yard! A fenced yard (6-ft. preferred) is recommended so that he can do all his running and playing safely. An obedience class is also recommended, not only for the owner/dog bonding aspect, but because it can help build confidence and aids in socialization. Huey is very smart, even-tempered, gentle and can be a bit goofy. He hasn't been cat-tested yet. This is a dog that needs a person - he's very affectionate. Someone to love him, care for him, and comfort him. Huey is full of love and for the right family, he can provide a lifetime of companionship. Like his brother, Louie, he has a very unique coat and coloring. His top coat is a beautiful golden chestnut with black highlights, but his under coat is light in color. Occasionally, under the right light you can see both. His tail actually looks as though it's outlined in black! If you think you'd like Huey and his stunning good looks to be part of your life, fill out an application today! Huey's waiting just for you!
Huey and his two siblings, Louie and Dewey, were found in downtown Jackson, MS, living in the underground world below the streets. The dogs were just pups then, but have since grown to be large in stature and personality. Though his early days on the streets made his brother a little anxious, Huey is just a large, playful goof.
Update from our southern partner, May 2, 2016: Huey has always been an outgoing and playful guy, but somewhere in the past year he is suddenly timid and shy. I am thinking it is "shelter syndrome." While he had been going out in the large play yard I think he became insulated and now the new things thrown at him have him confused and scared. I did have a trainer coming and working with the dogs but as often happens with volunteers she has had life get in the way. I am hoping another girl can come up more regularly on weekends and help with some of the timid dogs.

**Additional info you should know -  For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix.  We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label.   Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption.  There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.

Our Adoption Process...

Step 1: Find Fido

Review our online dog bios, email us if you have any questions. At SOS, we want to make the RIGHT right match, and that means helping you and Fido start a relationship – sometimes from a long distance.

Take your time, explore your options, consider your home and what kind of companion will fit in your lifestyle.

Step 2: Complete Our Application

Once you think you have found the right dog for you, please complete our online application.

At SOS, we don’t just want to make a match, we want to make the right match. To do this, we need your help; we know our dogs, but we don’t know you yet – our application helps us get to know you!

Step 3: Have a Talk

We will review the application and if it appears to be a good match for the selected dog, we will arrange for a time to talk with you over the phone.

Step 4: Meet Your Match

If, after the phone interview, the match seems to be a good one, we will be happy to arrange a meet-n-greet with you and the dog, if the dog is local. Meet-n-greets will be scheduled in the order they are requested.

Step 5: Application Screening

Once everyone has met (if the dog is local), and the match seems to be a good one, a designated SOS volunteer will check your landlord, vet, and personal references, as relevant. We may also require a home visit or adopter meeting.

Step 6: Finalize The Adoption

If the match is a good one, you will be informed via email of the adoption decision, and provided with instructions for how to pay the adoption donation and complete our adoption contract/addendum(s).

Step 7: Pick Up Your New Best Friend!

Once the adoption is finalized, congratulations! We will contact you to make arrangements to pick up your new family member!
**Please note that additional vetting, quarantine and/or waiting periods may be required depending upon your state of residence.

All of our dogs are age appropriately vaccinated prior to adoption. All of our dogs have been spayed/neutered and tested/treated for common canine disease.
