This gorgeous Doberman, Ethel was rescued from a hoarding situation where we took 11 dogs and another rescue took 10 dogs. This pretty girl was kept in a filthy, small dog run in a dark garage. Ethel would be best as an only dog although during training she does well with other dogs. She is also fine with dogs walking by her at an adoption event too, she had no problems taking treats from someone hand during the event and would have liked the whole bag, lol, she was very gentle. She is great with adults and is mostly respectful. Ethel still is wary of men and strangers but does warm up and is doing much better with foster dad. Ethel is 5 years old and now weighs 58.4 pounds. She is looking healthy and has put much needed weight on. She had very thin to no fur, Ethel was bald on a large part of her body. Her fur has filled in and she is looking great. She is on a high quality grain-free diet with extra fish oil capsules. Ethel is potty trained and uses a doggie door; she has had no accidents in the house. She sleeps on the couch or sometimes in her foster family's bed and is a house dog. You have to use caution leaving food on the counter as she will counter surf. She can be possessive of food and toys, no doubt from not having access to those much valued and needed items. She has begun obedience training with a Manteca trainer, Bone-a-Fide Dog Training; they are donating their time. The trainer has observed that she has already had some training. Ethel knows the commands "Sit", "Stay," "Come," "Off" and "Go Outside." She is scared if people raise their voice; she will bark at strangers. Due to their past life, we won’t put her in a home with children or where children visit. Ethel is well-mannered, is playful and is a lap dog. Ethel is good with other dogs, rides well in the car and walks well on leash, listens well, has good recall, . She is a Velcro dog; and will follow you all day long and stick right with you. She would love to be a lap dog and will lay in your lap if you let her. She loves sleeping in the bed and on a cold winter night there is nothing better. She mostly sleeps in a soft crate in foster family bedroom at night with crate open but bedroom door shut. She will give quick little kisses and will kiss all day long if you let her. She is starting to play ball and will almost bring it back. She loves to be praised but does not like to be scolded, even in a softer tone. She is doing better about meeting new people, but is still fearful until she feels comfortable. Ethel is working with gaining trust and will be a wonderful companion for someone who is patient and loving. She is a very sweet girl who wants to please. She is a very pretty and a very smart girl. She is now current on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. She was spayed, de-wormed and had a blood work-up as well as micro-chipped. Photography compliments of Shot for Shot by Tammy Griffitts

Our Adoption Process...

AFCHS is a non-sheltered humane society organization modeled after some of the more progressive humane societies. We do not believe any home is better than no home, but instead, work to find the right home for each specific animal.
If you are interested in adopting an animal, please fill out and submit the adoption questionnaire or call 209-368-1761 or 209-365-0535. ALL of the fields on the application MUST be filled out or the application will not send, if this happens your time will have been lost. If you are having trouble filling out the on-line application we can email you a copy to fill out. You can also copy the application and paste it into a word document, fill it out and then send it to us at office@animalfriendsconnect.org please call us afternoons at 209-368-1761 or 209-365-0535
Filling out a questionnaire is not a commitment to adopt. It does help us determine if the dog or cat you inquire about is suitable for your home and to suggest others not yet on our site.
While we have some dogs and cats at our Sanctuary most of them are in foster care or rescue homes. An application must be completed before an appointment can be set to meet them.
