My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Flora, at only 16 weeks old and 6.8 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 12 - 14 lbs), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Flora just in time to save her life.

This sweet and engaging Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle mix) is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.

Flora is also incredibly beautiful...with the gorgeous streaks of gold and black running through her non-shedding coat that have come out since she started receiving great nutrition. Flora was scheduled for euthanasia due to flea dermatitis. This is a skin condition (caused by fleas, dirt, poor nutrition and stress) that causes the puppy to lose some of their hair and develop a rash in that spot that is unbearably itchy! This is easily cured with placement in a clean, flea-free home, a diet with great nutrition and periodic soothing baths. We're often very surprised when we see one of our Dermatitis dogs just a few weeks after their adoption...their coats are quickly growing in with that cottony look of good health!

Flora is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a Schnauzer/Poodle mix. She's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Since Flora is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion. She will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through puppy socialization class followed by positive reinforcement group obedience classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.

We're open to Flora finding her forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and truly enjoy a young puppy. Flora is great with children as well but we would prefer to place her in a family with older, dog-crazy kids that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen.

Flora will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from Texas, however a very young puppy like Flora is often deemed too young to spay. If this is the case, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Flora to be fixed at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to zero population growth.

Flora will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 2/12/16.. If interested in this beautiful and exceptionally loving and fun companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
