My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Fargo, at only 16 weeks old and 8.4 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 14 - 16 lbs), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Texas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Fargo just in time to save his life.

This sweet and engaging Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle mix) is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of his temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life.

Fargo is also incredibly beautiful...with the gorgeous streaks of gold and black running through his non-shedding coat that have come out since he started receiving great nutrition. Fargo was scheduled for euthanasia due to flea dermatitis. This is a skin condition (caused by fleas, dirt, poor nutrition and stress) that causes the puppy to lose some of their hair and develop a rash in that spot that is unbearably itchy! This is easily cured with placement in a clean, flea-free home, a diet with great nutrition and periodic soothing baths. We're often very surprised when we see one of our Dermatitis dogs just a few weeks after their adoption...their coats are quickly growing in with that cottony look of good health!

Fargo is appropriately playful and inquisitive for his young age. He's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a Schnauzer/Poodle mix. He's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of his scary start. Since Fargo is just a baby, he's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show him the way. He has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion. He will form firm bonds with his family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through puppy socialization class followed by positive reinforcement group obedience classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior.

We're open to Fargo finding his forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and truly enjoy a young puppy. Fargo is great with children as well but we would prefer to place him in a family with older, dog-crazy kids that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen.

Fargo will be up to date on his vetting. We're hoping that he will be neutered when he arrives from Texas, however a very young puppy like Fargo is often deemed too young to neuter. If this is the case, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Fargo to be fixed at our vet in Denver to be in line with our commitment to zero population growth.

Fargo will be arriving on transport in Boulder on 2/12/16.. If interested in this beautiful and exceptionally loving and fun companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
