My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Petey is an exuberant youngster who is probably about 1 year old and still very much a puppy. He is a bit of a wild child who has not had much guidance but he is very smart and loves attention. He is affectionate and will give kisses and loves to be close to people. He is a friendly boy.

Petey will quickly sit on command again and again for a nice treat and will even sit on command so that you will throw his toy. He can bring back a ball and drop it for you when traded for a treat.

He has lovely eye contact and aims to please, just is a very high energy boy who has probably never been taken on walks or given structure and games to drain that energy. He definitely needs an active new owner and will most likely blossom into a much calmer dog once he has regular activity and adventures to entertain him.

He actually has much more self control in an environment that is more closed in and where he does not have as many choices. In our little adoption center room, he was a good boy for his photographs and seemed to want to do the right thing. He listened to commands and was calmer.

When he is given total freedom in a large play yard, he can get overexcited and can be a pushy puppy, not quite understanding he needs to be gentle with people. Thus, in his new home, structure will be key in training this bouncy pup. He will be best in a home without toddlers since he could easily knock a tiny child over.

Like many young boys, dogs or human, he seems to flourish under a firm but kind leader to guide him.

Petey has so much potential and can learn anything you want to teach him. He just needs a good pack leader human who will spend some time with him and teach him that he is getting too grown up for goofy puppy stuff like nipping clothing in excitement, or jumping up on people in his enthusiasm.

If you enjoy training and watching a smart pup make progress, you will have lots of fun helping Petey become a well mannered young man!

He absolutely has it in him to be a well behaved boy once he has some structure, training from a no nonsense owner, and he is properly walked and exercised to get the ants out of his pants!

Petey has a good sense of fun and does like to play and fetch. He is probably too bossy with other dogs at this stage to be in a home with others, so we would like to see him in a new home where he can be the only dog and get all of the attention and guidance he seeks.
