Adopting A Shelter Dog

These dogs come without background histories/ past medical information. We present these dogs as we have observed in relationship to age, size, breed, behavior, housebreaking, crate training, good with children, cats, dogs, and strangers. Dogs may present themselves differently in different environments, therefore The Dog Spot Rescue, their agents, volunteers, can not guarantee behavior, age, size expectations, breed, house Training, destructive behavior tendencies, and/or medical issues. All dogs from shelters have been subjected to pathogens from the shelter level which can materialize into disease in the future.  Each adopter must observe for themselves pre-adoption and make decisions for themselves the suitability of said dog and their tolerance levels for transitional time when adopting a shelter dog.  We ask that each adopter take their time when making the choice to bring home a rescued dog.

Skipper came two years ago from a hoarder situation in LA. The owner had over 60 dogs. We took about 10 of them and we have three left. They were all traumatized and all of them took lots of intensive therapy, lots of time, gentle patience and much love to turn them around. Skipper was a slow burn but now is so happy, so grateful and so much fun. He is a Schnauzer mix white and silver and a mid aged adult . He is excellent with other dogs, ignores our cats completely and enjoys a household with a routine and love. A great dog for a retired person or couple. Great on a leash. If interested in meeting Skipper, please fill out an application at and then email to schedule your appointment. All dogs are met in ELK GROVE, Ca. We are no longer meeting in Vacaville. We do not hold dogs after appointments so you will want to schedule a time when your entire family can be present and when you are ready to physically bring a dog into your home. You must have pre approval from your landlord. Adoption is $375 and includes his neuter, rabies, worming, heartworm test, dhlpp shot, microchip and all dogs go home on a two week trial. It also helps to keep our rescue going and allow us to take in the medically needy dogs. Skipper is a happy, well adjusted dog now and is quiet, behaves well, very sweet. He is hoping for a heart and a home to call his own.  He is available to be seen this Saturday!

Your Adoption Fee covers the following expenses: Spay/Neuter, DHLPP, Bordatella, Rabies (if age appropriate), De-worming and Frontline/Advantage

Please Note: Shelter/rescue dogs have been exposed to many pathogens such as kennel cough, parasites, diseases and conditions some of which may not have been discovered prior to adoption. Any dog that shows symptoms here at TDS are routinely identified, taken for tests and treatment. Our vet bills can exceed $10,000 a month. However, without symptoms, we may miss a disease, or pre-existing condition or parasite. Consider carefully if you have the tolerance for these possibilities. We consider, you, the adopters, the last leg of the rescue process.

About The Dog Spot Rescue & Rehabilitation Center

About Our Rescue Group...

They come from overwhelmed, overcrowded shelters, owners in crisis, neglectful situations, or simply abandoned to fend for themselves. Our mission is to eliminate the need for euthanasia, as a means of controlling the overpopulation of dogs, by spaying and neutering and by offering a place for dogs to go where they may rest, recover and be re-homed into a safe nurturing environment.
