Here's what the humans have to say about me:
People see a scraggly cat like me on the street and they move away, you know? Time and time again, I saw it - even mothers pulling their children close and saying, "Stay away from that cat - he's a dirty animal!"
No ma'am, I'm not a dirty animal. I'm just a good cat who has fallen on hard times, that's all.
I used to look better than this - with thick, shiny fur and no skinny ribs. Back when I had a person to care for me. But something happened and they stopped caring. And I ended up alone.
And it was hard. The worst part wasn't the hunger (although that was bad, having to scrounge in rotting garbage just to try to get a few mouthfuls and hoping it wouldn't make me sick). It wasn't even the thirst (although that got so bad, sometimes I would have to lick at drying mud puddles, just hoping for a little bit of moisture - often more mud and dirt than anything).
No, the worst part by far was being alone.
A cat like me really needs a person to love. Someone to look at me and smile, to pet me gently and say my name with kindness. Someone who looks at me and sees... a cat whose heart is totally wrapped around them with love.
But the way I am now... well, I thought I had lost any chance of love. People look at me and see a scraggly cat. A "dirty animal". Something to avoid.
But then something strange happened. A person saw me, saw that I was alone, that I was hurt and struggling. And instead of moving away, they came to me and said, "Hold on, buddy. I'll get you some help."
And they brought me here. A warm place. A safe place with real food and water (clean water!) and nice people. They cleaned up my injuries, they gave me medicine, and they said that everything would be all right because this was a place for cats like me to find new people to love.
I didn't know... I couldn't believe... well, there was nothing to say to that but, "Thank you." I wake up every morning saying it and I go to bed every night saying it.
And now, they say that I'm well enough to get adopted. Adopted! Into a home! With someone to love. Even just having the chance fills me with such hope! Thank you.
So...um, if you know of anyone who could use a good cat - a big, super friendly, quiet, very gentle cat who is still a bit shabby on the outside, but filled with love on the inside, can you please send them my way? Have them ask for Dean - that's me. I'll be right here. Thank you. No, really - thank you.
Dean has been vaccinated, wormed, spayed/neutered and tested negative for FELV/FIV which is all included in the $60 adoption fee. If you would like to adopt this cat, you must come into the shelter for a meet and greet. We are open 12-4. (Closed Mondays & Wednesdays) All cats must leave the shelter in a carrier. If you do not bring one with you, one must be purchased at the shelter if available for $5.
