My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Scooter! He is a chihuahua who is guessed to be 2-3 yrs old and he weighs 8 lbs. Scooter likes playing with the other dogs in his foster home. Scooter is a friendly, spirited little dude who is very talkative (he likes to mumble and grumble) - and rightfully so, since he has a story to tell!

Scooter has been with us since April 2015, but is just now available for adoption due to some unforeseen rough patches. Scooter not only had canine influenza and recovered, but back in June he suddenly became paralyzed in his rear end. Through cage rest, supplements, and physical therapy (thanks to Bialy's Wellness Foundation) he regained use of his back legs. He can navigate a step, can go up ramps, and can get around quite well. The vet believes that Scooter has an old back injury that caused the paralysis. Scooter will need a home that will maintain his safety, continue to do his home exercises to keep his strength up, keep his weight down and be willing be his advocate to keep him out of situations that will be risky to his back (jumping, rough play, etc). It will be a lifelong consideration that will need to be managed.

Here is a video of one of Scooter's exercise sessions. https://www.facebook.com/PerfectPoochesAdoptionAgency/videos/936205016454233/

Scooter can be a marker (probably due to the fact that he hadn't been neutered) so he sometimes wears a belly band in the house, but we are hopeful that this behavior will subside now that he has been fixed. Also, due to his back injury he sometimes urinates on his tummy and needs to be wiped with a wet wipe after his trips outside.

Scooter's adoption fee of $250 goes to help cover the cost of his vetting and rehab.

If you are interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website at www.perfectpooches.org under the Adoption Process tab. All dogs are spayed/neutered, current on vaccines, heartworm tested (age appropriate), fecal tested and/or dewormed, and microchipped.
