My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you!

Jack is a beautiful Shih Tzu that appears to be mixed with possibly Havanese. He was born last summer, probably in June, and is a sweet, cuddly and playful puppy boy. He gets along with his foster parents’ two dogs and two cats. He is wonderful with adults and children and loves to sleep beside you at night. Poor Jack came into our rescue because he was found tied up to a bus stop.

When he was rescued, his foster mom noticed that Jack was constantly seeking water sources, and consequently was urinating excessively. After seeing a veterinary specialist, Jack was diagnosed with Central Diabetes Insipidus (CDI). He was placed on medication and has made vast improvements. He no longer seeks water and his urination has curtailed significantly. He behaves normally and the veterinarian said that Jack can live a long, happy and healthy life but he will need to be on the medication his entire life. The medication (Desmopressin) is administered as an eye drop twice a day and the cost is approximately $30 per month.

Now that he is not drinking excessive amounts of water, Jack’s housetraining is improving, and his adopters will need to continue helping him learn good house manners. With consistency and a regular routine, he will learn very quickly. Jack is still very much a puppy and would do best in a home where someone has the time and desire to train him so that he and his family can be happy and content. His adopter also needs to be able to provide him with lots play time, long walks, and the opportunity to burn off his young dog energy.

Jack is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $30.56 sales tax for a total of $450.56. His foster parents would like his adopters to live within a reasonable driving distance of the Twin Cities and encourage them to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion in September.

To meet Jack, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the last Saturday of every month.
