Hi!  My name is Zack and I'm a 2 year old Pointer/Pit Bull mix, weighing in at 60 lbs.
I'm a playful and lovable guy.  My favorite thing to do is to go rollerblading with my foster dad!  I run so fast that all he has to do is hold on!  I also really love my foster sister.  She likes to wrestle and run with me.  My foster brothers are alright too but I would prefer to be an only fur child or to just have a sister in my forever home. I also really love treats!  I will do anything for one of those goodies!  I know how to sit, shake, lay down, and wait.  The hardest thing my family makes me do is to wait for my food until they say it's okay to eat it.  I just can't stop drooling until they say it's okay to eat!  I'm also potty trained and sleep in my crate at night.  I really enjoy to snuggle on the couch with my family before it's time for bed.  I also give the best kisses!
I really like to meet other dogs.  It would be rude of me not to smell them to say hello!  People are cool too as long as they have some treats to feed me but I'd rather just meet their dogs!  Sometimes I don't have the best manners but I am working on them.  I am trying really hard to not jump up on people and to share my toys and bones with the other dogs.  I usually just need a reminder and then I remember how to be more polite.  My ideal forever home would have a fenced in yard that is 6 feet tall for me to run and play in.  My foster mom says it's impressive just how high I can jump!
I get a lot of compliments from people that I'm really smart and a quick learner.  Maybe you could teach me some cool things?

Please understand that all of our pets are in foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please email us to confirm attendance.

To fill out an online adoption application please visit our website     Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at 952-929-0777 or email us at for more information.

All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  and fill out a foster application.

Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.

About Underdog Rescue MN

About Our Rescue Group...

Underdog Rescue and Placement was founded in 2000 by Shannon McKenzie. Having volunteered for several other animal rescue organizations, Shannon saw a need to help the dogs and cats often overlooked by other rescuers, the “Underdogs”

Our very first rescues included a pair of black kittens named Fenway & Wrigley, a pitbull puppy named Lucy and a tiny Toy Poodle named Lily (who was suffering from a head injury). No other rescue groups would take Fenway or Wrigley because black kittens are often overlooked by potential adopters, and, up until the time we rescued Lucy, rescue groups had not been allowed to rescue any dog considered to be a “Pit Bull” from Minneapolis Animal Control.

While in law school, Shannon McKenzie had the “anti-pitbull” policy changed, with the assistance of Attorney, Marshall Tannick. Underdog Rescue continues to successfully rescue and place pitbulls and other “bully-breeds” through a continued partnership with Minneapolis Animal Control.

Shannon’s dedication to the Underdog also extends to puppy mill survivors. Dogs that survive life in a puppy mill often come with a different set of challenges. They may require additional medical care, socialization and teaching of basic dog skills even though some may be adults. Our volunteers understand this and welcome these pets into their homes to show them what life as a dog and life with kind humans is like.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are considering adopting one of our pets, keep in mind that we have several policies regarding placement.

We only adopt to homes within 60 miles of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Only on a case by case basis do we place female dogs in homes with current female dogs.
We will not place our pets in homes with unaltered animals.
We have a strict NO DECLAW policy, where adopters must agree to never declaw adopted cats. For more information on declawing and its alternatives, please visit
We have a lifetime commitment to our animals, all adopters must agree to return their pets to us if placement is not deemed successful.
We strongly encourage continued socialization and formal obedience training for all dogs under the age of eight.
If you have children younger than 5 years, and do not already have a canine in your home, understand that adding a dog or cat will be like adding a permanent 2 year old to your responsibilities. For this reason, we will only place our pets in homes with children younger than 5 on a case-by-case basis. Keep in mind that completing an adoption contract means you understand that all adoption fees are non-refundable.
