My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have an Adoption Pending, but hope you will consider one of our other great dogs. Thank you!

Update 2/11/16: Foster Dad tells us that Misty and Sag are so easy to have in your life! They are very bonded and sweet as can be. They eat and sleep well, they are affectionate, and they love their people, including children. They meet new dogs passively and we believe would get along fine with another dog in their forever home. They want nothing more than a nice place to hang out with their family, and a fenced yard for playing outside. Their fun personalities are emerging more each day. Misty and Sag love the snow! Check out their video of Sag making snow angels while Misty supervises. They are so well behaved, affectionate, and a joy to have around.

They finish food from each others bowls, and follow each other around the house. If you pet one, you must also pet the other, and they always go outside together. Sag goes to the door and barks once to tell you he wants to go out. It seems they previously spent most of their time inside or outside in their fenced yard, with few walks, and seldom meeting other dogs. Thus, regular leash walks and meeting new people and dogs is new to them. On a morning walk they went passively past neighbors with their small dogs and were uninterested in a Golden across the street. They go into their crates upon being asked to “kennel” and they know commands "sit" and "down.” This wonderful pair is as easy to care for as one!!

Misty & Sag's Story:
Sunshine was contacted after Misty & Sag's owner had died. The dogs were living alone in their CT home with a neighbor stopping by to care for them. They were very lonely without their human mom and confused by her loss, and there were no family members who could not take them in. They are currently in their foster home in Dobbs Ferry, NY where they are working through this big change in their lives.

Misty is a female Yellow Lab, 7 years old, 65 lbs, and as sweet as sugar. She is outgoing and affectionate and has a nice moderate energy level. Sag (rhymes with "badge") is a 10-year old Golden Retriever who weighs 80 lbs and is on the shy side, but warms up after he feels comfortable. He is a moderate-energy boy who is happy to settle down inside for a nap after a walk. He likes to chase cats and back-yard critters, so a cat-free home is best for this pair! They both crave attention and are very bonded to each other.

Both Misty and Sag were well cared for and they are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed, neutered, and heartworm negative. Sag has a history of hot spots, so common in Goldens, and he will be seeing a vet about a couple that he has now. They visited a groomer and are feeling all clean and new! Do not hesitate to let us know if you would like to give them their forever home! Please contact the adoption committee to be considered for Misty and Sag. If not yet approved, please fill out an application to be considered.

About Our Rescue

Before being approved to adopt, all potential adopters need to complete our online application and participate in our pre-adoption review process. The process includes the completion of an online application, a reference from the applicants' vet, a phone interview, and a visit to the applicants' home. The application process helps us determine what type of Golden would be best suited for the applicants' life style. In some cases, the specific dog you are interested in may have found a home before this process is complete or further assessment may find that this dog is not the right match for your family. We are regularly getting new Goldens in need of a home, so we encourage you to apply and get approved so that when the right dog comes along you will be ready.

The information provided on each dog is based on observations of our vets, volunteers, fosters and when available, trainers. While we do our best to report any and all issues, SGRR does not make any guarantees as to the health or temperament of any dog. Dogs evolve differently in different environments and we cannot predict with any certainty how the dog you adopt will act in your home.

SGRR Adoption Fees (subject to change)**
Puppies under 6 months $650
Young dogs 6 months - 6 years $550
Young dogs - Special Needs $450
Senior dogs 7 - 9 years $450
Seniors dogs 10 years and older $350
Senior dogs - Special Needs $300
Young Bonded Pairs $850
Senior Bonded Pairs $750

**Please note: The fees listed represent a slight increase and are effective for applications received after June 1 2014. We regret the need to increase the fees for our dogs, but found it necessary due to the increased costs we are faced with for each dog's care and placement.

A contract is signed the day of adoption. Under the terms of the contract, all adopters are required to bring the rescue to a vet within 7 business days. The dogs receive basic veterinary care prior to adoption. If your vet identifies an illness that an adopter is not willing to treat, then the dog is returned and a full refund is provided.

Many of our dogs are fostered in private homes and we do not have a facility to visit. We are committed to our dogs before, during, and after adoption! The rescue retains title to the dog and can never be released or sold. Should the adopters no longer be able to keep the dog, SGRR must be notified so that we can take the dog back into rescue and place it into another home. We reserve the right to remove a dog at any time should we find the adopter is no longer caring for their Golden in a way we see fit. Adopters then have to agree to follow up visits as needed.

Please be a ray of light for this Sunshine dog and make a tax deductible donation toward medical and other expenses. Every cent of your generosity goes directly toward the care of a Sunshine dog.
