My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rescue work is a very bittersweet affair. Animals come through our doors 7 days a week / 365 days a year. We dedicate our time, put forth effort, provide tender love & care, opening our hearts & sometimes homes to remarkable creatures in their time of need. Specifically tending to the dogs entails; donations, feeding, walking, devoting quality time, playing, medical care, evaluating, fostering when available, teaching them new things & loving them for everything they are. Some of their stories are more heart wrenching than others but the reality of it all is each one of them needs us in various ways. Until that magical day when all their dreams come true we (the staff & volunteers) will provide for them & love them as if they were our own.

Nevaeh’s story is one that is truly heartbreaking. She was abandoned on our property back in November in tough shape. Severely emaciated, sores all over her body & you could just see in her eyes she felt drained. Despite her condition & the state in which she was left, Nevaeh seemed to know we were there to help. She has the most the resilient smile known to man. Her trust (though truly she had no reason to) is undeniable. She loves to be in the presence of people, wants so badly to be close to you (she knows NO personal space) & insists on you holding her delicate paw. What’s interesting about Nevaeh is that although she clearly was not well cared for someone in her past spent some time with her & taught her a good foundation of her basic commands. Fluent in sit, paw, down & is almost housebroken too. There is still lots to learn for this girl but the road has been paved nicely.

Beautiful inside & out our 6 year old Boxer has come a long ways since her arrival at the shelter. She is almost at a good healthy weight, her body is healing, her fur is starting to have a glow to it, steadily has more energy & that smile of hers continues to shine relentlessly. This girl loves to play & explore her surroundings. She likes to keep active, continue to expand her knowledge & relax with the comforts of home at the end of the day. Every moment she’s blossoming into a remarkable pup. Although we will likely never know what kind of cruel person could neglect such a remarkable soul we promised Nevaeh that she will never have to wonder when her next meal will come. She will always have everything she will ever need & more from this day forward.

The search is on to find Nevaeh’s special human. The person she will share her hopes & dreams with. The one she will unconditionally give her love to. The person who will commit to giving Nevaeh the life she deserves. Unfortunately Nevaeh’s passion for people doesn’t extend to animals. She is not savvy when it comes to her canine or feline friends. She much prefers to live a life of solitude with you by her side. With a past like hers how can we deny her the peace & serenity of a calm, relaxing home? Nevaeh is very easy to fall in love with, she has captured the hearts of everyone she meets & that face of hers seals the deal. Are you ready to take the next step? Come down and meet our special girl. You have nothing to lose, only to gain with this girl so stop by today & tell us why YOU would be Nevaeh’s happily ever after!

Note: As with all of our dogs, we strongly recommend obedience classes for new owner and dog to create a life-long bond with the adopted dog based on trust, respect and rewarding training experiences. We are offering dog training classes through FMAS Wagtime Dog Training. You can check out more information at www.fmaswagtime.com. We can help you train practical skills you use every day with positive reinforcement training. Our shelter dogs are strays and we observe and assess their behavior at the shelter which may be somewhat different in a home environment. In addition dogs adopted from the Manchester Animal Shelter are spayed/neutered, microchipped and have received their Rabies and distemper vaccinations as well as other necessary medical care such as flea treatment. All dogs are also heartworm tested. Some prudent care such as heartworm medication is not provided at the shelter and should be taken care of at the earliest convenience upon adoption.
