Elvie's Story...
Elvie is the best girl in the world. There's nothing more to say about her! She's a petite 4 year old pit bull mix with red and white color, and she arrived at ACL as a stray. When Elvie arrived, she was still lactating slightly, so she likely had been used to breed and then discarded. We can tell you, her previous owners didn't know the diamond they had! Elvie is gentle, affectionate, responsive to commands and directions, and focused only on YOU! She loves everyone, and she'd make a great family dog. Elvie is friendly with most other dogs, though she may slightly prefer neutered males to females. Elvie has shown gentle, positive interest in kitties, so a home with a dog-savvy cat might be just what the doctor ordered! Elvie loves walks, playing with toys, and full-body cuddling. She's 100% housetrained, easy to walk on leash, and she knows commands. She's such a special lady - come meet her and see for yourself!

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Oak Park already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Oak Park breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Pit Bull Terrier/Hound (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Pit Bull Terrier/Hound (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Oak Park paves the way for another one to be saved.
