Twinkie is a handsome, soft-spoken yellow tabby teenage boy who is a true survivor. He fell victim to the cold, hard streets where he was suffering from a debilitating case of mange and a bad upper respiratory infection.  Many  people turned a blind eye and left him outside to die until his urgent plight came to the attention of his caring foster mom who rescued him from the streets and used her skills to nurse him back to health. In spite of this rough start Twinkie never grew to be hard or unforgiving and instead is a loving boy who purred his thanks during all his medical treatments and  is so sweet he makes your teeth hurt. He is healed and healthy now but because of his past  he  needs a small space to start off in when adjusting to a new environment.  He warms up in a timely manner and has a mild curiosity so does like to explore the house but will retreat to his small space as a safe zone if it's too much. Twinkie will need an understanding and patient human who will give him time to properly settle in so he can show off his grateful, kind, gentle personality that can melt the coldest of hearts. He loves to cuddle and be petted once the bond of trust with his human is built and he  is dog and cat friendly. Twinkie's  heart is bigger than himself and he's just full of love - please consider opening your heart and home to this sweet boy.

About Second Chance Pets

About Our Rescue Group...

Second Chance Pets (SCP) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization dedicated to providing unwanted pets a second chance through foster care and pet adoption programs, educating the public about proper care for their own animals and about animal welfare issues, and working with the public, other rescue groups, and public officials to help resolve the problem of animal overpopulation.

Come Meet Our Pets...

SCP does not have a shelter or an office location. The rescued pets, volunteers, fosters, and adopters who comprise SCP come from all over the Galveston Bay area (mainly north Galveston and south Harris counties). Most animals are fostered and loved in volunteer homes until a permanent home is found.

SCP has cats and dogs available for adoption every Saturday at the Petco store at Bay Area Boulevard and Space Center Boulevard. A few cats may be seen during the week at the Petco location

Our Adoption Process...

Potential adopters must complete applications so that volunteers can help adopters identify cats and dogs that will fit best in their homes. SCP volunteers review the applications and discuss pet care responsibilities with potential adopters. The adoption donation typically starts at $95 for cats and $125 for dogs.

SCP tries to ensure that all pets are healthy at the time of adoption. All are examined by veterinarians when they enter the program. All are vaccinated, spayed, neutered, de-wormed, tested/treated for parasites and disease (such as heartworms, fleas, leukemia and FIV) as needed. Cats are vaccinated for FVRCP-C and FeLV. Dogs are vaccinated for DHLPP and Corona virus. Animals are kept in foster homes when available to minimize exposure to disease and to help them be well-adjusted. It is the policy of SCP that no cat or dog may be sent to a permanent home before it is fully vetted, including spay or neuter. All of our rescued animals are microchipped.
