Magpie -PENDING ADOPTION's Info...
I am already spayed, housetrained, in need of an experienced adopter, up to date with shots, good with kids, good with dogs, and good with cats.
Magpie -PENDING ADOPTION's Story...
Magpie is a 3-year-old, 30 lb border collie cross, almost certainly mixed with Jack Russell Terrier.
Magpie is a wonderfully affectionate, happy, and smart dog. She lives with children (8 and 10 years old) and enjoys their company. She also lives peaceably with multiple cats.
Magpie is mellow-somewhat surprisingly, given her breed mix. She's calm around the house and walks on a loose leash. She's a great buddy on excursions, but she doesn't need hours of exercise every day.
Magpie is trustworthy in the house (though she is accustomed to having the company of a stay-at-home parent). She is fully house-trained and isn't a chewer.
Magpie has multiple training classes under her belt, and was recently certified by Furry Friends as a pet assisted therapy dog. She loves being taught new things, and would probably enjoy agility, fly-ball, or anything her guardian is excited to teach her.
Though Magpie has had significant training, she is clever enough to know what she can get away with, and her new guardian should be willing to invest time in establishing a strong bond with her and in maintaining her training over time. She would do best with experienced, dog-savvy guardians who know how to set appropriate boundaries. Children in the household should be old enough (8 and up) that Magpie views them as authority figures rather than canine peers.
Magpie should be an only dog, or live with a submissive male. She wants to be the dominant dog in the house, and has had problems co-habitating with another dominant female. This issue is why her current family has made the very difficult decision to try to find her a more harmonious home environment. Outside of her home, Magpie is tolerant of dogs smaller than herself, and, with proper introductions, does fine with other low-key dogs. She is annoyed by big, pushy dogs.
