Facts about NELLY in Rogers, AR.

  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less

Meet sweet Nelly (aka Penelope)! Nelly is happiest when she is with her person and she can cuddle or be close to them. She loves to nap in your lap, be held, or nap in her cushy bed. She will paw at your leg to ask to get on your lap. She is allowed free reign of the house during the time her foster mom is gone and she does very well. She is house trained, loving, friendly and so much more. She loves to cuddle and be near the one(s) she loves. She will just stare at the people she loves simply begging with her stare to be held close and loved on. She gets along with all of the other dogs but is a fairly mellow girl who really prefers to forego the “childish” play although she has been known to get a wild hair and join in. A fenced yard is required for Nelly’s safety and she isn’t a fan of cats except to chase them.

EXPERIENCED ADOPTERS ONLY! This sweet gal was rescued from a high kill shelter in Dallas, TX. We were told that she was a biter and had an upper respiratory infection so she was marked to be euthanized. Fortunately a kind soul saved her and pulled her for rescue. It turns out that the fear caused her to lash out and her upper respiratory infection was a simple kennel cough treated with anti-biotics. We do not know where her journey has fully taken her or what she has endured but, in spite of it all, she is a lover and desires above all else to be loved. That being said, she has bitten one person but never any one in her foster home nor any other dog. This is why she needs an experienced adopter and someone who is very dog savvy. She lets you know when she is frightened and you must read her body signals. Day-to-day she is a wonderful pup that lives a happy life as any pet would. Her foster mom is NOT afraid of her but respects and looks for signs of Nelly being fearful.

Nelly is a just a girlish 11.50 lbs and was born 6/29/2009. She is healthy, micro-chipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, heart worm negative and taking preventative. She is currently being fostered in Rogers AR and we prefer to place her within driving distance of her foster home. If a wonderful applicant outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must fly in and Penelope must fly home inside the cabin with the approved adopter. Our dogs may never be shipped in cargo and we do not transport them to adoptive homes. Because of her small size and fear we do request she not be placed in a home with children.

Our dogs are never placed in homes with invisible (electric) fencing. Doggy doors are OK as long as they are secured at night and when you are gone. Nelly is small enough to be carried away by a coyote or other predator so should never be outside alone.

If you are interested in adopting, please submit an application at http://www.abgra.org./ If you have questions about Nelly, please contact e2k@cox.net.

About American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance, Inc

About Our Rescue Group...

ABGRA (American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance) & AAR (American Affenpinscher Rescue) is a non-profit national rescue group founded to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home Brussels Griffons and Affenpinschers. We strive to leave no Griff or Affen behind and rescue these breeds from commercial breeding facilities and city/county shelters when foster home space is available. We also accept owner surrendered Griffs and Affens. We are an all foster home based rescue that provides complete vetting for our dogs prior to adoption.

American Brussels Griffon Rescue Alliance Inc. (ABGRA) and American Affenpinscher Rescue (AAR) came into being to meet the needs of the Brussels Griffons and Affenpinschers who are abandoned, might be abandoned, or whose circumstances we can improve.
We are especially mindful of the Griffs and Affens that have spent their lives in commercial breeding facilities and who will have a chance at a better life through our efforts. We also rescue both breeds from animal shelters and accept owner surrendered Griffs and Affens.
ABGRA, & our subsidiary AAR, is a non-profit national rescue group.

All adoptions go through our website-
We do not have a kennel facility and place all of our Griffons and Affens by application. All of our rescued dogs are living in foster homes where public viewing is not possible.

Our Adoption Process...

Our adoption donations are from $200 - $350 and reflect the vetting costs incured for each dog as well as some dogs whose costs far exceed the donation.
We interview all references provided and require a home visit before placements. An adoption contract is required. If the dog is returned within 30 days, a refund will be issued. ABGRA requires adopters be 25 years old, or older, and are looking for stable permanent adoptors. In most cases, these breeds are not recommened for families with young children or for people who are not home for long periods of time. They are the perfect pet for someone who can take their dog to work with them, work from home, or are retired.
