My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Our spectacular Novalee is so full of love that she seems to burst into a room in search of the first open lap she can find. She is the ultimate family dog, guaranteed to deliver that joyous Disney moment to each family member. This bodacious beauty knows how to work a room, and charms everyone she meets.

Two years old, Novalee has oodles of puppy mojo, and has a high energy, excited vibe. She sometimes forgets her manners, and in her enthusiasm to plant a wet one on her beloved person, she might seem kinda pushy. Novalee may be too much for toddlers, but older kids would revel in Novalee love. She has adapted nicely to her multi-dog foster home, and would probably be ok with cats, but she may pester them beyond their comfort zone in play.

Novalee is a purebred Beagle, and sports the classic tri color pattern. She came to us from an overcrowded Animal Control facility, where she spent some time after being found as a city stray. The astounding thing about Novalee is that at the end of her stray time, when most dogs look like they have missed a few meals, she weighed a whopping 38 pounds. Shelter workers assumed that Novalee was someone's beloved, and "well fed" pet, but sadly no owners could be found.

At the end of her stray hold, we invited Novalee to visit us, with plans for her to shed a few unwanted and cumbersome pounds. Her weight was affecting her gait, and Novalee seemed to have a slight limp. Due to the diet and exercise regime implemented in the last few months, we are pleased to see that Novalee has lost 9 pounds and her limp is resolved. She now loves to run and play. Novalee is well within her goal weight, and we would like her adopters to maintain her weight, and not allow her become obese again. Novalee will snack incessantly, if some controls are not in place.

As a full blooded scent hound, the best way to exercise Novalee is a leisurely leash walk that allows her to take in the scents of nature. Scent Hounds are easy to entertain, because the simple leash walk provides a lot of bang for the exercise buck. Novalee gets a complete mind body workout after each walk, as her highly evolved schnozz picks up loads of information for her brain to process.

Novalee has good house manners and is house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during her transition to a new home. She is spayed, and has been vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP (distemper, adrenovirus, parvo and parainfluenza), and canine flu. She has been boostered as needed. She has had the 4dx test, and is negative for heartworm, lyme, earlichia and anaplasmosis. She has been dewormed, and microchipped.
