We welcome specific questions. Due to high volume of applications, we may not be able to respond immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
If an animal is on our website, it is still available but might have other applicants. If you find yourself interested in one of our animals, it is in your best interest to submit an application immediately. Submitting an application does not commit you to any animal, but does get you a head start with the adoption approval process.
We do not schedule meetings until you have an approved application.
As an all-volunteer, foster home based organization, ARF does not have a facility where applicants can visit our animals. The majority of our dogs and cats are brought to adoption events by our volunteers. We invite everyone to come to our events, but we must give priority to pre-approved applicants.
Gabby is a sweet 7-8 year old Rat Terrier whose mother was a long time ARF foster and volunteer. Gabby needs a new forever home because her mom passed away recently. She is very affectionate and lives for nothing more than a scratch to her hips and to sleep under the covers next to you at night. She has lived with other dogs and cats ever since she was adopted but it is her hearts desire to get all her person’s attention—or at least 60% of it. At the time of writing this little bio, she is laying on her foster mom’s lap next to 3 other dogs and a cat. She will bark when people come to the door. If they come inside, then she continues to bark until they bend over and pet her. She will run in the yard and play fetch, loves to “kill” her stuffed toys, and is just a wonderful dog whose life has taken an unexpected and tragic turn. Please help her find a new home, a new family—no one saw this coming.
Gabby is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, housebroken and spayed. Her new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Gabby's adoption fee is $250. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting Gabby fill out an online application today! http://arf-il.org/application.html Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting.
If you’re invited to meet an animal, plan to arrive on time or early,
as we cannot hold animals.
All household members must be present at time of adoption, including dogs.
We appreciate your cooperation.

You'll receive a copy, too, at to help you keep track of which pets you've inquired about, and which shelters and rescues you've emailed.
NOTE: Some shelters have physical locations you can visit; some of these shelters may only have pets for a limited time, so please do not wait for a reply—just go visit the shelter! Other organizations are rescue groups run by busy volunteers who may take a while to reply. You can find information about the shelter or rescue group caring for this pet, and their adoption procedures, on the pet's details page on Adopt-a-Pet.com.
