My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Penny, a 21 pound senior, has big brown eyes and the sweetest face that just makes you melt inside. She is quite the attention seeker wanting to be petted all the time but is very good when you tell her it’s time to go lie down.

In nice weather she loves to be outside. If she gets on the scent of a rabbit or squirrel she will have her nose to the ground, howling with the rest of the dogs. She has been caught trying to dig under the gate after a rabbit so would have to be watched if on a scent.

Penny is very quiet in the house except when she is expecting a treat. Then her whole back half wiggles with joy and she may bark. She sits very nicely for treats and takes them with a soft mouth. She comes when called and is completely housebroken. She has never been crated. She loves walks and car rides and is very good at both.

Penny has recently had some spine issues which caused loss of feeling in her legs however, she is fully recovered. We are now limiting her use of stairs and she uses steps if she wants on the couch but she usually just sleeps in her dog bed. We are also giving her joint health supplements from the vet as a precaution.

We call her our ‘drama queen’ because she makes a big production out of anything out of the ordinary done to her. If she must take pills by throat, she will start yelping even before we open her mouth. She cries at every single toe nail clipped and when the vet had to take her temp she started backing up as soon as she saw the thermometer and cried even before the vet had inserted it!

Penny would probably do well in an apartment as long as she didn’t have many stairs. She is great with other dogs but would not want an energetic sibling because she doesn’t really play. She is good with children but would be better in a home without children, again, because she doesn’t really play. She is pretty much a day long couch potato! She is looking for a home where she can get lots of attention and just be loved.

Penny hopes you will open your heart to her and give her a forever home. She was surrendered by her long term owner (along with Cocoa) due to the owner having cancer and being unable to care for her but she walked into our foster home just like she owned it and settled in immediately.
