Hi everyone, my name is Banjo. I am a handsome and very affectionate 3 yr old male black lab/blue heeler mix who was rescued from a California shelter by a BC based dog rescue organization. A very kind hearted woman offered to foster me but when she had not heard back from the rescue group despite numerous attempts to contact them, she asked HALDR to to take me in. Due to a shortage of foster homes I have been boarded at a kennel for several weeks. It is a nice kennel but I don't get to enjoy any of my favorite activities here. I want so badly to be living in a home again.
I LOVE people with a passion and when I meet anyone new I make a real goof of myself by rolling onto my back and wiggling around on the ground. It would thrill me to have you rub my belly forever. I am a medium-high energy dog who enjoys runs, walks, hikes, going to the beach and most of all swimming. The kennel owners think I dream about swimming as I have been observed doing the doggy paddle in my sleep.
At home I like to relax, cuddle, snuggle and play with my squeaky ball. I am a very smart boy and enjoyed it very much when my former foster mom hid treats around the house. She would tell me to "find it" and I would hunt through every room sniffing until I found every one of them. I also know how to sit, stay, come, wait, lay down, roll over, dead dog and shake a paw. I am a little rusty now as I am out of practice but it won't take me long to relearn them with your help. I also know the word for "squeaky ball" and "Banjo's bed" as well as many other words. I am a quick learner and love, love, love to please.
Because I get over excited by other dogs and can be dominant with them, they don't always enjoy my company and I have gotten into a few scuffles. But nevertheless I have a few dog friends who understand me and we enjoy playing together. When I am properly introduced to another dog I generally do fine with them. It doesn't seem as if I have had much exposure to young kids as I was spooked by a little boy I met on a walk and hid behind my foster mom's legs. I am also not good with cats so will need a cat and kid free home.
I have so much love to give and just need the right person to give it to. That person should be confident and experienced with dogs, want to have a loving, outgoing and personable canine companion to share outdoor activities with, and have a large supply of treats and is generous about dispensing them.
I am very healthy, housetrained, neutered and up to date on my vaccinations. My adoption fee is $300.

About Home at Last Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Home at Last Dog Rescue is a small group of volunteer animal lovers whose goal is to help homeless, neglected and abused dogs find caring and responsible homes.

Our volunteers are dedicated individuals who have joined together to form a new rescue group. We are commited to helping dogs in need and to provide them a second chance at a happy life.

Our dogs are not kept in a shelter. We depend on the support of caring and compassionate people to care for our dogs until we can find them permanent, loving homes. We provide vet care and rehabilitation to all of our dogs.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adopting a rescue dog, the first step is to search through the list of our dogs currently available for adoption. All dogs remain on Adoptapet and our website ( until an adoption is finalized so all dogs listed may be applied for.

Our job is to find the right home for each of our dogs. We will contact you to arrange for a home check at your convenience. Unfortunately, many of our applications are rejected, not necessarily because there is anything wrong with the home, but because it is not the right match for the dog. Following a successful home visit, we will arrange for you to meet the dog, usually in their foster home. At that time, you will decide if you would like to adopt the dog.

Before an adoption can be finalized, we will ask you to sign an adoption contract. Depending on the dog’s personality you may be asked to visit the dog once or twice before taking him or her home. This will be most common with shy, timid dogs. Outgoing and confident dogs can most often be taken home after the first meeting. Documentation for each dog will be provided upon adoption. Adopters must be ready to pick up their adopted dog home as soon as they have been approved and have agreed to adopt the dog. Home At Last Dog Rescue BC cannot hold dogs for people who have applied but are not yet ready to accept the dog into their home.

Please note: an adoption fee is required for successful applications. The adoption fee is non-refundable, even if the dog is subsequently returned. Home At Last Dog Rescue BC will always take back one of our dogs for any reason, and without question. Adoption fees for our dogs vary. The price varies based on the age and medical needs of the dog being adopted; costs are judged on a case by case basis.
