My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

It's very often the unimaginable...what these wonderful and perfectly-tempermented dogs go through at the hands of non-thinking humans! Velma is a perfect example of a truly great dog who had the misfortune of being the pet of uncaring humans. She ended up at a very high-kill Kansas shelter..her address on a rubbed-out tag turned out to be a closed-down gas station with no residents anywhere to be seen. Velma was alone in the world at barely 18 months old with euthanasia in only a matter of hours. Farfel's Kansas rescuer sprang into action to save this truly exceptional pup.

Velma is a wonderful girl...her joy in being hugged and given belly rubs on her silky-soft belly knows no bounds! At 12 lbs. Velma would be the ideal companion for a super-loving (she deserves it!) and committed family who enjoy the pure love and very loyal and devoted energy of this Terrier/Poodle mix. We feel that Velma would enjoy the company of gentle kids 12+ (we wouldn't want her poked or her tail pulled by young children since she's such a petite and sensitive girl) as well as other dogs. Retirees who are searching for small lap-dog and very sweet walking companion would enjoy this devoted best friend. She loves to play with both and can be counted on to never be inappropriate but always sweet and kind in her encounters.

While Velma would love to run and romp outdoors with her family, she's definitely a house dog in her heart. She would love nothing more than to be a full time companion...be it on the couch as a foot-warmer or in the car riding shotgun on errands or visits with dog-friendly friends. It would be Velma's greatest joy to be appreciated as a great pup...but more important...as a full-fledged member of a family. Velma would not be happy with a family of full-time workers where she would spend many hours alone. She would blossom just being included in on the action....she would never choose to let anyone down and would always try her hardest to have the best behavior around.

It is Velma's love affair with life and all the hardships that she's suffered along the way that motivates us to put her through Heartworm treatments..her precious life deserves to be saved! Velma has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to cover all costs to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives.

We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Velma as she becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as she becomes healthily heartworm-free.

Although we've requested a spay appointment prior to Velma's transport to Colorado, that sometimes isn't possible due to far too few vets in this rural section of Kansas. If Velma can't be fixed, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for spaying and a microchip after Velma's arrival in Boulder.

Velma has the most beautiful white and silver coat ever that is made for winter warmth. It's so cottony-soft that you just want to stroke it's fuzziness at all times. It needs to be cared for by providing her with great nutrition and periodic grooming and bathing...this will keeping her coat shining, soft and matt-free.

Velma will arrive on transport in Denver on Friday 2/19/16. Applications are currently being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested in this sweet and devoted companion, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730.
