Hello! My name is Elmer. I'm a hound mix, and Mutts Matter thinks I may have some Rhodesian Ridgeback in me too. I'm about a year and a half old, 50lbs, and am a very sweet boy who still has some puppy energy in me. I love to run and play fetch, and when I run and chase the ball, I spring in the air like a deer. I like to go to the dog park and play with my fellow canine buddies, but I'm perfectly happy as an only-pup too. What I love most is to lay right next to you while I chew my bone and just be. I'm potty-trained, crate-trained, and walk well on a leash. I know multiple commands - sit, stay, heel - and will come when you call me. I'll do anything for a treat!
I may be young, but I've already learned that life is not fair. I was initially rescued because I was a victim of the Alabama tornado last spring. I lost my home and my family in an instant, and had nowhere to go. Thankfully, Mutts Matter took me in and gave me a 2nd chance.
I thought I'd found my forever family and started my new life, but here I am again searching for my place in the world... I was adopted a few months ago by a couple who promised to love me and give me a good life. Things started off great, but then my dad got deployed, and he and my mom started not getting along and plan to separate. They decided not to keep me even though I did nothing wrong. I'm sad now, but still have hope. The folks at Mutts Matter think I'm a great dog, and are committed to finding me the right family.
I haven't had much stability in my life, so I need a family who will spend some time with me, make me feel secure, and can show me some leadership and consistency. Mutts Matter thinks I would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner and a fenced yard where I can run and play. Mostly, I'm looking for a family who will love and commit to me, and I will love them back whole-heartedly. I will be the best dog ever if you give me a chance.
My adoption fee includes my neuter, routine vetting and microchip. By adopting me you are giving me a great home, and helping to save the life of another dog in need of rescue. Oh yeah... Roll Tide!
