My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Lucky" is a striking, approx 2-yo neutered male GSD who is friendly, affectionate and somewhat insecure. Lucky greets everyone he meets w/ a tail wag. He is a natural with kids--he has been around children as young as two yrs old, and is very calm and respectful of their space. Lucky does show signs of being harshly treated in his former home, as he cowers at the slightest verbal correction, but that hasn’t made him averse to being handled-- Lucky loves to be petted and is a bit of a "Velcro" dog. He weighs about 70 lbs.

Lucky is great with other dogs, and presently lives w/ a very playful male Pit Bull mix who he gets along very well with. Lucky is on the submissive side, so could be paired w/ an alpha dog with little concern of conflict. We would like to see Lucky go to a home w/ another playful dog, but it is not a requirement for adoption. (See the YouTube video elsewhere on this page of Lucky playing w/ a female Pit Bull mix at the shelter before GSRSV rescued him.) Lucky has shown a bit too much interest in the resident cats at his foster home, so we will only consider a home w/out cats for Lucky.

Lucky has great house manners and regularly spends 9-10 hrs inside without incident while his foster caretaker is at work. Lucky walks well on a leash and really enjoys walks. He could use a positive obedience class simply to build his confidence—he is very food-motivated and should be easy to train. Lucky hasn’t been well socialized and new experiences make him a little nervous, but he recovers quickly with a little reassurance.

Lucky was brought to the Stanislaus County Shelter as a stray on 1-21-16. GSRSV rescued him on 1-30-16, and he has been in a foster home in East Sacramento since then.

Lucky's adoption fee is $275, which includes a microchip.
