My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Ruger!
Ruger is a beautiful 7-month-old pit bull mix who, for the sake of his health, is in need of a a very specific type of home.

Ruger is an adorable, sweet boy who is good with kids, dogs, and cats! He's housetrained to boot! However, Ruger chews things. Not couches or furniture, but sticks, toys, boxes, rugs, wooden baskets, etc. He recently had to go to the animal hospital to remove an obstruction. His current owner is moving to California in two weeks and knows a new forever home would be best for him and his specific needs.

Ruger needs a home with experienced and responsible owners, preferably without children, so there are no toys to tempt him, or in a home where he can be separated from the kids' rooms. He requires specific dog toys with no pieces that come off, won't break apart, and don't have stuffing. These types of toys should be virtually the only objects on the floor. All things need to be picked up off of the floor at almost all times that me may ingest. His current veterinarian feels it is important that the new owners have this type of lifestyle, can control their environment, and are able to keep him safe and happy.

His ideal family should be able to manage the outside environment as well. This means keeping sticks out of the yard if you plan to leave him out there alone for any period of time. This is the only way, however big, that he is a high maintenance pet. His recovery period from his surgery will end just before hos owner moves, so he will need medication every few hours.

Ruger’s adoption fee is $100 and he is being fostered in southeastern Wisconsin. Because all our Cupids are fostered in private homes, an approved application MUST be on file before proceeding with a meet-and-greet. The online application can be found at http://www.caninecupids.org/adopt-.html.

Our Thoughts on Visual Breed Identification
Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable. For most of our adoptable Cupids we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We think it’s most important is to get to know each dog as an individual! We then do our best to describe each of our adoptable Cupids based on their personalities in order to determine whether they’ll make good companions based on prospective adopters’ lifestyles. Dog behavior is not exclusive to breed — it’s a complex mix of nature and nurture.
