I love watching Rocky Mountain Vet on Animal Planet.

I have ears with a personality of their very own.

I get along well with adults, older children, and kitties with slow and proper introductions.

I would rather not miss out on any opportunity to play with you and my blue sparkle ball!

Hi!  My name is Lilo  and I’m a very smart French Bulldog/Pit Bull gal who is searching for a furever home to call my own. I have a beautiful grey-brown brindle and white coat and my foster mom says I should have been named Radar thanks to my incredible ears! I seriously love play time and helping my foster mom garden in the back yard. I do a really good job of being friendly with the resident feline at my foster home. My foster mom also discovered that I really enjoy being blow dried after my baths.

I am crate trained and have a perfect record on being housebroken too. I’ve been working with my foster mom and a trainer on my manners and my foster mom says I’m one of the quickest learners that she’s ever met. She tells me to go to my “room” (my crate) when I come back inside from going potty and I immediately run to my kennel three rooms away (there might just be head pats or treats!).

I would love to be adopted into a home with lots of cuddle and play time. Are you my furever home?

From the foster mom:

Miss Lilo is a very special girl who is learning to trust after a very difficult start to her young life. She was saved by Ruff Start Rescue after being abandoned on the streets of St. Paul. While she is initially fearful of strangers due to her background, she does a great job of meeting new people one on one and will be on her back in minutes for belly rubs if you have her favorite snack – cat treats! When she first arrived, Lilo was scared to let me out of her sight in case I didn’t come back and she would follow me from room to room in my home along with sticking right by me in my backyard. Now, she loves to snuggle on the couch and is also confident enough to wander around my yard and the house. Lilo is barely knee height, but don’t let her petite size fool you. She is a little powerhouse with tons of energy who needs an owner with previous bully or similar breed experience due to her strength and determination. It would be helpful for her owner to also have experience with canine anxiety or be willing to continue to work with her on learning to trust that there are good people out there who will love her. She needs a home with no other dogs due to her reactivity and a house with a standard (non-electrical) fence. She is also a great security monitor and lets me know right away if there is someone in my driveway.  She is highly intuitive and very tuned in to her people.. Once Lilo has met you, all she wants is to be by your side.

About Ruff Start Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Who We Are & How We Do It

We are a small, but mighty, Non Profit 501c3 Rescue. We are a No-Kill dog and cat rescue organization in Central Minnesota. Our rescue is composed solely of volunteers who love animals. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats and work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

This group is comprised ENTIRELY of volunteers who work full-time doing something that pays the mortgage. We do the rescue stuff (which is our true passion) after work and on the weekends. So if your phone calls or emails are not answered by a live person right away, it’s probably because we are at work and will call you as soon as we can!

By Choice

We do not have a shelter. We are of the belief that a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. So, we rely exclusively on homes like yours in which to place our pets until they find their forever home!

We work exclusively with a foster-care program where our pet lives with you, and we pay for or provide everything. A home environment is always the most desirable and with the endless supply of animals needing homes, we just never have enough lined up. Sometimes the foster lasts a week, sometimes several months. A dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are sitting by your chair or next to you while you are on the computer than stashed in a noisy kennel somewhere surrounded by sick and barking dogs.

We Can't Take Every Surrendered Pet
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal IF we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live while we seek a new forever home for him. OR, if you agree to hang onto the pet while we help them find a new home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs & cats out there who need help. But, we DO have an extensive list of people looking for specific dogs and cats - so if you can hang onto your pet for a little longer, we might be able to assist you in placing them. No promises, but we promise to do our very best to help you find your pet their new forever home!

Our Mission Statement:

Ruff Start Rescue, is dedicated to saving all animals whose lives are at risk. Located in Princeton, MN; we are determined to educate the community about the importance of animal rescue and safety. We rescue animals from high kill facilities, rehabilitate the sick, love the unsocialized pets and maintain a 100% spay/neuter program. Ruff Start Rescue strives to end pet overpopulation and safely place all animals in loving homes.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our animals are in foster homes. If you would like to meet a foster animal, please fill out an application on our website:! We also have our animals available at adoption events at local Petsmarts! (Monticello, Maple Grove, and Coon Rapids).

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption process we go through is to have the potential adopter fill out an application on our website: There is then a background check done on the potentional adopter and if they pass the background check and home visits we set up a home visit! If the home visit passes, the adopter can then adopt the animal they're looking at after meeting them.

There is an adoption fee. This fee depends on the vetting that the animal has already needed. If the animal is too young and has not yet been spayed or neutered, you are required to sign a contract and agree to have them spayed or neutered.
Adoption fees range from $200 - $300
