Important Note

Leigh is best friends with Zima. Please adopt both of them so they can stay together!
Leigh was found living outdoors in a feral cat colony and very pregnant in April 2015. She was the best mommy cat ever of her own kittens, and even adopted 3 orphaned kittens too. We believe she is ~3 years of age due to her experience with raising babies.

Leigh is a shy kitty but loves to live with other cats. Her preferred home would be a quiet one, where she will have a patient owner that will give her time to adjust to a new environment. Leigh is bonded with Zima, another female mother cat that she is best friends with and we would like for them to be adopted as a pair. She has not lived around dogs or small children, and we are not sure if she will tolerate their commotion and noise. A quiet, adult or senior home would be her best match.

She has been spayed, microchipped, tested negative for leukemia and FIV and is also up to date on vaccinations. Please contact us if you are interested in finding out more about Leigh and her best friend Zima.

An approved adoption application is required to adopt a pet from the Tri-Lakes Humane Society. Visit our website for more adoption information, including policies, fees and to view our application form. Completed applications may be submitted to our office via email, postal mail or in person during a visit at our facility.

About Tri-Lakes Humane Society

About Our Shelter...

"We speak for those who cannot" has been our shelter's motto since 1973. Since 1942 our members and staff have rescued homeless and unwanted pets, and placed them into new and loving homes.
In 1998, our board of directors voted to become a "no-kill" facility. "No-kill" means we do not euthanize healthy & adoptable animals to make room for new arrivals. In 2001, we moved to our new facility at 255 George Lapan Hwy in Saranac Lake, NY. Since our big move, we have rescued and adopted out over 3000 animals and reunited over 1000 pets with their owners.

We are very involved in our local community, and we have a Humane Education program and we travel to local schools to educate children on proper animal care, the importance of spaying and neutering, and how to be kind to animals.
Our Spay/Neuter Assistance Program provides financial aid to low income pet owners who need help affording the cost of the surgery at local Veterinary Hospitals and Clinics.
We also have a Trap-Neuter-Return program to help local community feral cats.

The Tri-Lakes Humane Society employs an Animal/Dog Control Officer, and contracts with local towns and villages. Our Dog Control Officer is in charge of enforcing the local Dog Control ordinances. From time to time, we also become involved in animal cruelty cases and assist local law enforcement with their investigations.

Our Adoption Process...

Adoption Applications must be submitted and approved prior to adoption of any animal. You can view our Adoption Policies and application form on our website:

Our Adoption Fee for dogs/puppies and cats/kittens is $77, which covers the spay/neuter cost, microchipping and registration, as well as all vaccinations, flea treatment, and wormings.
The Adoption Fees vary if the pet was already spayed/neutered and vaccinated prior to arriving at our shelter.
We also have a Seniors for Seniors adoption program. If a person over 60 years of age opts to adopt a pet over the age of 7, all adoption fees are waived.
