ADOPTED ON 05-21-16 - No longer able to care for Dicey, fortunately, her owners did what was best for her, they reached out to a rescuer that took in dogs in LA and found them homes. Dicey is in good company, she is with 20 other dogs that her foster mom works day and night to find these dogs good home. Now she is looking for a new forever home with a loving family who will love her unconditionally.

Dicey is a puppy, she loves to play and would love to hike with an active new family. She adores children and other dogs, so a fenced in yard where she could scamper and play with them would be ideal. Her house manners are coming along nicely and she enjoys car rides. Dicey will tolerate a crate but much prefers to be in her human’s lap, or at least right next to them. She greets her humans with loving eyes and a wagging tail—she is a totally devoted loyal dog; but come on, who could resist those ears?

Dicey is a beautiful 8 month old Cur mix in need of a new home. If you have an active energetic family and are looking for a lifelong friend who can share in every new family memory, Dicey is your girl!

This dog cannot be adopted to Massachusetts residents due to new laws regarding rescue dogs being prohibited from adoption. Please contact Patricia Cabral at: 617-626-1786 or
Mike Cahill at: 617-626-1794 for questions regarding what dogs you are allowed to adopt.

Dicey is a victim of being born in a place where there are many dogs and no solutions. Her story is wholehearted, she was taken in by a stranger who could not walk away. This chain of hero’s have a network in the south and each of them has a small part that helps these extraordinary dogs to safety. The remarkable people who make rescue achievable for Dicey and her sibling even though she has dogs of her own. These hero’s in the south can’t ever envision walking away because a rescuer’s spirit is pure and giving. Puppies come into this world with a clean slate. Dicey’s life is full of play, good food, afternoon naps in the sun and kisses daily from her rescuer that examines every spot on her.

Catahoula generally will live long lives of 10 to 14 years and one of the most popular breeds in the USA because they are loyal, loving, affectionate and patient, making great family dogs. They are highly intelligent, good-natured, very willing and eager to please; they are among the top choices for service dog work. They love to play, especially in water, never wanting to pass up the opportunity for a good swim.

These lively dogs have an excellent, reliable, temperament and are friendly, superb with children and equable with other dogs. They crave human leadership and need to feel as though they are part of the family and are easily trained. This breed of dog is wonderful with people of all ages, interact well with children.

As all puppies need a lot of love and patience, Dicey would make a wonderful addition to a family willing to give her the commitment. In turn, she will worm her way into your heart and delight you with her puppy antics!

Dicey is in excellent health, ready to leap into your heart and go to her FUR-ever home. If you are the type that want to make a difference this year to a deserving dog in need, Dicey will thank you every day and fill your life with laughter and licks. Our adopters are the most wonderful people who stand to be the last chapter of their rescue story, and the first chapter of their new forever lives!

ABOUT THE BREED

Catahoula Leopard Dogs have a gentle family spirit. Easily comfortable playing on the carpet with children. Gentle, wise and easygoing, they make an agreeable family dog and warm-hearted friend. They are naturally protective of their home and family, and make excellent watch/guard dogs.

Catahoula’s are exceptionally intelligent and loyal. However, they are also a highly energetic and very assertive breed. They are affectionate and sensitive to their owner. As one owner puts it, they are "strong" and "made of whipcord and leather". They are very protective of their family

CHILDREN AND PETS
Some describe the Catahoula as a great babysitter for kids. The Catahoula is suitable for families with children, but despite his family loyalty and protectiveness, all dogs should always be supervised in the presence of toddlers or young children.

Always teach children how to approach and touch dogs, and always supervise any interactions between dogs and young children to prevent any mouthing, biting, or ear or tail pulling on the part of either party. Teach your child never to approach any dog while he's sleeping or eating and not to try to take the dog's food away. No dog should ever be left unsupervised with a child.

Catahoula’s get along well with other dogs. All adult dogs regardless of the breed, they may require more of an adjustment period before they welcome the company of another dog. To ensure the best relationship, choose a dog of the opposite sex. Make introductions in a neutral area away from your home.

TALK ABOUT CATAHOULA FROM THE OWNERS

PET COMPATIBILITY
1) I love this breed because they are very loyal and not aggressive.
~Erica G, owner of a Catahoula Leopard Dog

2) We just adopted our second Catahoula puppy and they are the laziest and low maintenance dogs I have ever owned, lol. We have fallen madly in love with the Catahoula breed but I have yet to see any working from these dogs! Lol
~Robin Lynn Williams, owner of a Catahoula

A LOVING FAMILY DOG
3) My boyfriend has had his Catahoula for four years and she is one of the sweetest dogs I know. She is very protective but so very loving at the same time. Since I've come to live with him she likes to stick close to me while he's at work, and while we already knew she'd be great with the baby we're expecting it's comforting to see the facts back this up.
~Maryah M, owner of a Catahoula Leopard Dog

4) These dogs are loyal and offer the best protection. And they're great with little kids
~Medusa, owner of a Catahoula Leopard Dog

GOOD WATCHDOG WHO LOVES CHILDREN
5) Our Catahoula/Bloodhound mix is the best of both worlds. She loves children and is an extremely good watchdog.
~Joan M., owner of a Catahoula Leopard Dog

About Our Rescue

These dogs deserve all of our attention, and in Rescue Dog Village, we are committed to our adopters and our dogs equally. We offer full disclosure and hope to make the best matches possible. Please know our adoption fees never cover our expenses. We rely on the generosity of our adopters and supporters to help us help the dogs.

Our rescue is ONLY in the business of offering FULL DISCLOSURE to adopters, and expects and hopes to engage your questions and concerns fully. We owe it to the dogs we rescue and all the wonderful families/adopters who might consider welcoming our charges into their hearts and home. Our dogs are waiting for that ideal forever home where they will be cherished as deserving family members. It's sad these second chances are even necessary for these dogs, but we are committed to them and will devote the time and energy to their rehoming, and not just MOVE them to save more dogs. We diligently and responsibly seek good matches as we don't want to re-home the dog again. These animals have already endured more than they should have, and through no fault of their own. It behooves us to be honest and forthright, and we appreciate the same in return from applicants. It's that winning combination of reciprocal trust and respect that allows for successful placements to be made. Happy adopters translate to happy dogs, and that's our goal!

Our rescue volunteers will be more than honored to be in touch with you directly and promptly, after receiving your application and conducting a mandatory a veterinarian check. If you have never owned a dog before, please submit your application regardless, and we will be in touch with you as soon as possible. TAKE NOTE YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR SPAM AS SOME RESPONSES FROM US WIND UP THERE WE'VE DISCOVERED. Also, take care to contact your veterinarian to let them know a member of rescue will be inquiring about your pet history!

Thank you for respecting that we all donate our time to saving these animals, and understand we value your philanthropic and compassionate desire to help be part of the rescue team. That said, you'll understand why we are committed to the well-being of our charges and consider this veterinarian check mandatory. If you are a first-time dog owner, we will work with you every step of the way! ADVOCACY AND EDUCATION ARE AS MUCH A PART OF RESPONSIBLE RESCUE AS ADOPTION! And it takes a RESCUE VILLAGE to help the most dogs possible in a thorough manner to ensure success on all fronts, and then some! It is an awful feeling to fail a dog, and we can't continue rescue if we don't do everything we can to ensure good matches for the dogs and tender families who might adopt them. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

Although we are an extremely small rescue group, we understand and respect your family's eagerness to be in touch and learn as much as you can about the dogs you are considering adopting. Our very experienced and devoted trainer will be happy to share all aspects of OUR RESCUE DOGS to determine compatibility once you've submitted your application, and another of our volunteers will explain the whole process of our rescue and answer any questions you might have as well

If you have the time and love to offer this extremely bright dog who can make you laugh for hours at his antics, PLEASE APPLY TO BE CONSIDERED FOR A RESCUE DOG VILLAGE DOG AND GIVE ONE A HOME. Our dogs deserve all that a committed family can offer. Make no mistake about it, this is one spectacular dog!

Please contact RescueDogVillage@yahoo.com and we will be happy to return your correspondence, but please submit the application now so we can have that information as a starting base for our dialogue.

THANK YOU FOR CONSIDERING RESCUE AS A MEANS OF WELCOMING YOUR NEXT FOUR-LEGGED FRIEND INTO YOUR LIFE!
