Bad and tragic things too often happen to all kinds of animals, and sadly Lewis falls into this category. Adopted from OAR at a very young age, he thought he was going to his forever home. For close to 14 years it was; but recently his family decided that it wasn’t “convenient” to keep him anymore, and they returned him. On one hand we are grateful they returned him to us versus throwing him out on the street or taking him to a kill shelter, but on the other hand it is very difficult to understand how someone can quickly decide you can’t be family anymore, especially when you haven’t done anything wrong. Lewis did nothing wrong! This beautiful, gorgeous boy is doing his very best to handle this rejection the best way he can; admirably we might add. He has quickly become a favorite of all the volunteers, and loves attention and petting. When you walk in his room, he will come over to greet you and welcomes cuddly petting. You will quickly hear his happy purr. We currently think Lewis may be a social eater as he eats his meals better when someone is near him and giving him pets. In a home, this might not be the case. His former caretakers also did him the painful disservice of having him declawed, so his new adopters will have to be diligent about making sure he never escapes through an open door. Please plan a visit to OAR during open hours to meet Lewis, and we are pretty convinced you find him a delight. Lewis is sure hoping there is someone out there willing to give him the home he so deserves. A person or family that truly understands what the word “commitment” means...

Our Adoption Process...

We have many cats and kittens looking for wonderful homes! All of our cats are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, tested for FIV and Feline Leukemia, and microchipped. Adoption fee is $50. Because we like for our cats to go home in pairs, we have a standing 2 for 1 adoption special -- you can adopt 2 cats for one fee of $50.

Meet some of our cats and kittens, and fill out an application today! An OAR representative will get in touch with you to discuss your application. We do require a phone screening before an adoption so if you are coming to visit the cats and hope to take a cat or kitten home that day, fill out and submit the application at least a day beforehand so we can pre-approve your adoption.

As of 3/7/12, our adoption policy requires that the adopters of our cats not declaw the cats, no matter what the cat's age. We will, with our adoption counselors' help, provide potential adopters with information on alternatives to declawing. We also sometimes have previously declawed cats up for adoption. These can be a good alternative for adopters who are adamant about declawing.
