My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young dog. Archie is the kind of pup who snuggles in, loves you up and then puts his head on your shoulder. He's so sweet and social with every possibility open to him. That's the case unless a dog is in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great rescuers and fosters in Tijuana, Mexico for saving Archie from abuse and certain euthanasia. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and his need so great that she couldn't turn her back on this very special guy. Archie was immediately brought to be vetted, given the appropriate vaccinations, neutered, granted a health certificate and brought to a dog-loving foster to begin his education as a cherished house dog.

When we think of rescue, our thoughts don't usually go onto the tough streets of Tijuana. But these forgotten dogs deserve our help every bit as much as their US counterparts. They all have been used for opportunistic purposes...to either breed and discard or to sell as a puppy to a Mexican mill or rich tourists. Virtually all of them have lived on the streets and survived by learning to be social. They love people because compassionate tourists were their means of survival. They can sit in any language and fit quietly into any scene to earn a treat or discarded meal.

This was the life waiting for Archie...12 - 24 months old and approximately 35 lbs. This is such a perfect size to be able accompany his family just about anywhere and fit right in due to his great temperament and very positive outlook on life (Colorado hiking trails would be nirvana to this guy..he loves the sunshine and the fun with his people). Archie is already starting to understand that sweet, cuddly and cooperative behavior makes great things happen in life. He was one of the extremely lucky young dogs to master his skills at a very early age and endear himself to the US rescuers. There was no way Archie was going to be left behind! We all have a clear picture of this very sweet and fun-loving guy in a forever Colorado home with a family that cherishes him for life.

As Archie becomes comfortable in his home (he may be a bit shy at first), he will become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please - the happier his family is with his behavior, the more he will shine with his accomplishments.

We would like to see Archie in a home that includes him in family time and activities (and some snuggly couch-time would be perfect!)... and takes that extra step to participate in positive reinforcement obedience classes. These classes take a very smart dog like Archie and molds them into a great family member that can behave appropriately in any situation.

Archie would also be a wonderful companion for active retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young pup. Archie would enjoy another gentle dog to play with...he's so sweet and kind as he puts his positive energy into enjoying the day with a fun friend.

Archie was identified as a Wheaten Terrier..mixed with another scruffy Terrier) by his Tijuana rescuer. The town vet agreed..loved Archie immediately..and felt that he is a beautiful and sweet Terrier through and through. We've requested a new photo to show Archie's cuteness and will update as soon as we receive it.

It's very difficult at this point to determine the type of hair Archie has. He hasn't received the nutrition and care that's necessary to have that stunning Wheaten coat. Archie will be bathed and groomed and begin a regimen of premium food and a salmon oil supplement. His new hair will grow in with the beauty and softness that speaks of a healthy and well cared for coat.

Archie will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 3/19/16. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet pup with the dark, expressive eyes. If interested in this adorable ...and very fun and entertaining companion, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com.
