Facts about PIA

  • Breed: Basenji/Labrador Retriever Mix
  • Color: Tan/Yellow/Fawn
  • Age: Young
  • Size: Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg)
  • Sex: Female
PIA came to us from Mexico a few weeks ago. She was a street dog who was lucky enough to be picked up by a shelter that operates as a rescue. She was taken off off the streets because of her sweet nature. She was only about 6 months old at the time and grew up at the shelter. PIA is a beautiful medium sized dog who has good energy and loves to play! She is a strong girl although she is smaller in stature. She loves to go running with her foster mom , she loves to be active. PIA will need a secure fenced in yard with fencing that is at least 5 feet high. She is working on her leash training and coming along well. PIA is very sweet and eager to please. She is just a big puppy. PIA is just under 2 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. She is golden in color with golden eyes. She is stunningly pretty! Her new owner ideally will have dog experience as PIA will need some obedience and leash training.
All in all, PIA is a gorgeous girl full of potential. She weighs about 45 pounds (she is smaller, but muscular). She has honey colored eyes and a heart of gold...PIA wants a forever home ,she has been waiting too long...could that be your family?

About Safehome Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a non-profit organization, run by volunteers and fosters. We facilitate the rescue and adoption of animals in need by working with other rescues to remove animals from harm's way and into a "safe home".

OUR MISSION: To be directly involved in the rescue of abused, neglected, and homeless animals, and to provide information to the public regarding the needs of animals in their community and abroad.

Most of our work takes place in North America, but we are slowly & ambitiously embarking on a global campaign to help animals around the world. Due to the cultural differences and current economic downturns in many other countries, we are aware of terrible injustices that are taking place to animals worldwide, and we collaborate with rescue groups globally whose values and ambitions match our own mission.

The scope of our work is not limited to one geographical area, or to any specific breeds. We hope to become a global foundation and to help all animals in need. It is only with your support that we can save lives and bring love into the homes of people who are interested in adoption.

Our Adoption Process...

At Safehome Animal Rescue, our goal is to find the most suitable environment for each animal, and we reserve the right to refuse anyone for adoption or fostering. We want all our animals to find a loving forever home, and strive to achieve that through our policies and careful selection process.

We strive to ensure all animals are medically and emotionally sound for adoption. We fully vet all animals we adopt out, including spay/neuter. We will always, to the best of our knowledge, be honest about any health or behavioural issues. Most of our animals are stray or shelter animals, and we do not have their complete history. We cannot guarantee age, breed, or behaviour. What we observe with each animal may differ from what happens in your home; you must be ready to dedicate some time to helping your new friend adapt to their new environment.

An application must be filled out for each animal so that we can review and find the best possible adopter/foster. The selection process involves reference checks and a home visit conducted by one of our associates before you are permitted to adopt/foster, followed by a 1-2 week "home visit” before permanent adoption is allowed. This helps ensure the right match, as it allows both the rescue and the adopter to evaluate whether the animal's needs are being met in the new home, and how good of a fit you are for one another. During that time, until a permanent adoption contract is signed, the animal remains in the ownership & responsibility of Safehome Animal Rescue.

Our adoption fees are non-negotiable. Upon the termination of any adoption, the animal must be returned to Safehome Animal Rescue and no refund will be given. Our standard fee is $400 for dogs, $200 for adult cats, and $250 for kittens. These fees include the costs of vetting & spay/neuter.

We will not under any circumstances adopt out an animal for breeding purposes, so please don’t contact us if you want an un-altered pet. Our goal is to educate people in the importance of spaying/neutering.
