My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

MEET MILO

This little sable Dachshund/Chihuahua mix puppy is 5.5 months old and 12 lbs. This handsome, loving little fella loves walks, car rides to the pet store and cuddling in his bed. Milo is house trained, leash trained and up to date on all of his vaccinations and neutered. MILO has spent his early days around other dogs and cats, so he would do well in a family with other animals.

MILO is a little timid and can be hesitant. He's very sensitive but with patience and encouragement, he is gaining confidence everyday. He is frightened of strangers and needs time to warm up to them, but once he warms up to you...you're in! He's very sweet with people he knows!

With these things in mind, we believe that MILO will do best in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds and small dogs. Because he is a puppy, he needs a loving, patient family that is willing to help him learn all the important things a puppy needs to know to achieve his full potential. If this is you, please visit www.odr-inc.org to complete the Adoption Questionnaire. This little guy will make a fabulous family pet.

Like all Dachshunds, MILO is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, MILO needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.

OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):

Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc). Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.

WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:

All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $495, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.

Can you give MILO a happy, carefree life? If interested, please complete the adoption questionnaire at www.odr-inc.org and email it to: jrangan@comcast.net. The adoption committee will attempt to be in contact with you within 48-72 hours. Please be patient as we are solely volunteer run.
