Aloha! Chester is a handsome 6-year-old grey tabby who came to us all the way from the Kauai Humane Society. He's a friendly boy with a mellow island vibe, and is eager for a lap of his own. With over 15,000 free roaming community cats on their small island, the Kauai shelter workers struggle to find loving homes for  the cats in their care, which means placing a cat like Chester, who is positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV), is especially challenging. Chester is a happy, healthy lovebug looking for an indoor home as a single cat or with other FIV+ kitties. Meet Chester at the Pet Food Express adoption location at the Crossroads in Carmel.

About Animal Friends Rescue Project

About Our Rescue Group...

AFRP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to finding good permanent homes for stray, abandoned, and abused companion animals. We are also dedicated to ending the companion animal overpopulation problem through focussed spay/neuter programs.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Animal Friends Rescue Project has a main adoption center and many satellite adoption sites. Our Main Adoption Center is located at 560 Lighthouse Ave in Pacific Grove. We are open Tuesday through Saturday 12-5. Adoptable cats are always on site. We also bring 5-10 adoptable dogs to the center from shelters or their foster homes on a daily basis. If you are interested in meeting a specific dog from our website, please call 333-0722 or email Check our website for a complete listing of our satellite adoption sites, dates of our adoption days, and dogs and cats available for adoption (

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption fee for a cat is $150 which includes their spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, and FIV/FeLV testing. The adoption fee is $200-$300. The adoption fee helps to cover the cost of the care the animal has received, including spay/neuter, vaccines, microchipping, deworming, and flea treatment.

All potential adopters complete an application and are screened using a standardized series of questions by a trained adoption counselor. If the application and screening are satisfactory, a qualified adopter can complete a contract, pay the adoption fee and take the animal home.
