Cheese's Story...
Cheese is a little over two years old, 73 pound, Rottweiler/Hound mix, who was rescued from a high kill shelter in Kentucky, while she was pregnant. Cheese had her pups just a few days after coming to HART, and they have all been adopted, so now it's her turn. Although Cheese is a very sweet loving doggy, she needs a special home. Cheese was adopted but returned because she became too overprotective of the children in the house. One of the children was special needs, and Cheese would place herself between the child and anyone other than immediate family and growl. She believed she was defending the child and bit a relative when he picked the child up. The adoptive family absolutely loved Cheese and was heartbroken when they returned her.

Ordinarily, HART would euthanize a dog that showed aggressive behavior, but it's not in Cheese's nature to be aggressive. We feel she was merely being protective over her family and deserves a second chance. Although she absolutely loves children, Cheese may be better off in a family without them. She needs an experienced dog owner who understands the protective nature of a Rottweiler, and is willing to take steps to assure she doesn't get caught up in another predicament. Cheese does get along with other dogs but is fearful upon first seeing them and needs a proper introduction. This young lady is a great dog and deserves to find a home with someone that will love her! It may take a while but we'll find the perfect home for her.
