My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Beauregard: 11 to 12 yr old male, white-mitted, Grey and White Bicolor Maine Coon mix

update 4/7/16: Beauregard April update: This super sweet boy has just had his dental cleaning. His teeth were in very good shape. No extractions. He is so healthy. This boy just loves to be loved. He has a deep, gentle heart. Where is his new family??

Original post: His family had him 11 yrs. He lived with other dogs, cats, children, men and women, and a tortoise. Because they were moving to an apartment that didn’t allow cats, his family brought him to a shelter.

I expect his family had no idea that being left at a shelter is very often a death sentence for senior kitties. Beau’s situation was made more bleak because the shelter vet found he had a medium grade heart murmur. The shelter photo on the “Needs Rescue List” was excellent. I loved his face and thought, “I can find this beautiful guy a home." California law requires a five day hold. His euthanasia date was set for his fifth day, which was the day I got him. The shelter combo tested him for me and did a blood panel. They also agreed to give him a grant for a much-needed dental.

His blood panel showed him to be a cat in perfect heath, no sign of renal failure, no issues at all. He had a pre-dental exam with our vet. After listening carefully-- twice--the vet found absolutely NO heart murmur. Yaaay! It is not unusual that the stress of being abandoned in a shelter causes temporary heart troubles for a cat. Everything about him checked out perfectly, except his teeth. His dental cleaning is scheduled for 3/17.

Right from the first day we found him to be a super soft, super nice boy. He is not a spoiled, pampered kitty. He is grateful for all love given him, and he’s such a very sweet and patient boy. His coat was dirty and it was a pleasure to bathe him and fluff him up. I expect it was the first bath of his life. He was certainly surprised and miserably tolerant.

Beau has a very short, fluffy tail of about 4 inches with a kink in the end. It is adorable and very distinctive. He also has many long white whiskers, green eyes, mostly soft grey fur with a little fawn in it. His muzzle, feet, and bib are bright white. His nose is brick red. He is a very handsome, unusual looking cat. Big like a Coon, he weighs 12+ pounds.

Beau needs a stable, quiet home where he will get lots of love. He would be a great companion to a single person, or couple, or a family with older children. I have a feeling he has been in a busy somewhat chaotic family home where he has been, at least recently, overlooked and uncared for. So a life with a doting human who wants companionship would be great for him. He would be fine I expect with a gentle cat or two and maybe the right dog. He wants peace and quiet, a sunny spot, and lots of love.

Beauregard eats wet and dry food and is litterbox perfect.

His foster mom is Harriet in Santa Cruz.
