PHOENIX is a very special boy to all of us at The Rescue Express and we are looking for a very special home for him. Abandoned all by himself at the age of 7 weeks in a high-kill southern gas chamber facility we saw his beautiful little face on a euthanasia list. We stepped up for him and had him transferred to a veterinary hospital for a check-up. Sadly we found that he had been exposed to distemper and he was soon battling for his life. With tremendous fortitude and strength, Phoenix survived all odds. He was determined to live! He was in isolation for 3 months and then moved to a foster home where he was a favorite with the resident cats!! When he was strong enough he came north to us where he received extensive evaluation and therapies. In another sad twist of fate, he lost his long term local foster due to illness. At present he is in boarding at a veterinary hospital where he has just completed two courses of stem cell therapy.

PHOENIX (who is about 2 1/2 years old) is on three medications to control seizures. He is basically housebroken and good in a crate. He still has back leg weakness on one side. He loves to run although he does need to lie down and rest periodically. He is good with other dogs and wants very badly to bond with a special person or two. He is smart (he is a shepherd after all!) and knows some basic commands (he could learn more!!). He can be "mouthy" when wanting attention so he should not be in a home with small children. He absolutely loves going for car rides and to new places!

Our dream home for Phoenix would be with a retired couple or a single person who is not gone for long hours. He needs a fenced in yard where the property is fairly flat. He can climb stairs but would do best where the family lives basically on one level since he loves to hang out with them! He enjoys and learns from other dogs and would probably do best with medium to larger breed females or easy-going males. He is fine with cats.

PHOENIX is a hero who needs a hero (or two!!!).

Our Adoption Process...

We require that all potential adopters fill out an adoption application, provide all requested references, participate in a home visit and agree to our contract stipulations. We strive to make the best match possible for both the adoptee and the adoptive family.
