MEET DUSTY -
While maybe not what everyone automatically thinks of when they hear about a green eyed, red-head, this handsome, loyal, little 22 month old, 17 lb tweenie chi-weenie is sure to steal your heart. Since his previous human went off to school, he finds himself in need of a loving forever family. DUSTY is housetrained, leash trained and loves riding in the car. He also really loves to take you for walks (he carries his leash in his mouth). DUSTY loves to love and to cuddle with his human. He gets along well enough with spayed female dogs, but otherwise prefers to receive all of your affection and give you all of his. He really is a loving little boy with a lot of great personality. While a bit shy, Dusty is learning to come out of his shell a bit more everyday with love and patience. He is very smart and loves to please his family. Could you be looking for a special little dog, with lots of fun personality and love to share? If so, perhaps Dusty could be your new BFF...
DUSTY will do best as the only fur child in a family with a stay at home parent (work from home or retired) and only older children (over age 12), who are familiar with the special needs of Dachshunds. DUSTY needs training. He does know how to sit on command and stay and will do so when he eats, but he needs his new family to teach him the things he needs to be a successful little doggie.
Like all Dachshunds, DUSTY is high energy and enjoys playing and warming his little bones in the sunshine, so along with regular walks around his neighborhood, DUSTY needs a secure fenced yard to run around and explore safely. While small in stature, doxies are big on personality and don't generally do well in apartments, with all of the noises and traffic that come with multiple dwellings in a confined space. To best set up our doxies and their new families for success, ODR, Inc., adopt to families who live in single family homes with secure fenced yards.
OUR CRITERIA (aka The Fine Print):
Based on 30 years of experience with rescue doxies, we have pretty strict criteria. Do you work from home/stay at home/work part time? Have a securely fenced yard? We do not place same gender dogs in a home unless they were raised together, and children need to be 10 or older (some exceptions IF the dog is a puppy or the child has been raised with a doxie). We prefer non smokers and a home with no other small animals (ferrets, hamsters, etc) Cats are on a case by case basis depending on the dog. Remember, these are rescues; many were surrendered because of these issues.
WHAT YOU GET IN RETURN WITH YOUR LITTLE RESCUE:
All our dogs are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, Pyrantyl, nails trimmed, and dental when needed. They'll come with a basket of goodies, food, toys and a custom made harness. The adoption fee is $395, sorry no exceptions, as this covers the cost to rescue them, vet them and take care of them while in our rescue. It also helps towards the care of other doxies that come with huge vet or dental bills or need extensive behavioral training.
