Facts about Luna

  • Breed: Chihuahua Mix
  • Color: Tricolor (Tan/Brown & Black & White)
  • Age: Senior
  • Size: Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
  • Sex: Male
Luna is a sweet senior girl. She loves people and has readily greeted many visitors to her foster home - Luna is so darn cute that people just keep stopping by to meet her! She also gets along very well with other dogs. She will run to greet you at the door when you arrive home and follow you around the house until you are ready to sit down and snuggle in with her and a soft blanket. Luna has helicopter tail! Her tail wags so quickly when she sees her person it is nothing but a blur. Since Luna is a senior, she is not very active and really just wants to sleep, snuggled up in your lap or preferably right under your chin. Luna does pretty well with house training on a schedule. She is estimated to be about 10 years old and weighs about 5-6 pounds.

All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They have all had a vet exam, are up to date on vaccinations, have been given a dewormer, are treated for fleas, have a heartworm test if over 6 months old and are up to date on a heartworm preventative.

Please note that because we require a home visit at the time of adoption we can only place animals in homes within a 60 mile radius of Minneapolis. If you are interested in meeting this dog please fill out the pre-adoption application on our website at under Adopt and we will get back to you to arrange a meeting in the foster home.

We also have an Adoptable Dog Meet & Greet on Saturday October 29, 2016, at Fetch Delivers Warehouse, 783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150, Minneapolis, MN 55413, from noon - 2 pm. Occasionally dogs cannot make it to the Meet & Greet, therefore feel free to verify if your dog of interest is able to attend. Please bring a copy of your pre-adoption application.

About Safe Hands Animal Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Safe Hands Animal Rescue is dedicated to saving lives and finding forever homes for stray, abandoned and surrendered dogs in high kill shelters. We are now incorporated and 501(c)3 pending. Of great importance to us is to reduce the stray population and need for healthy animal euthanasia through spay/neuter programs, education, and promotion of respect for the furry creatures that share our lives.

We are a small, no-kill, volunteer run organization. All of our dogs listed are in foster homes waiting to be adopted and because of this, we get to know the dogs' personalities very well and use this information to match them to an appropriate home. We do not have a physical shelter.

This rescue is not funded by public funds nor does it receive many donations so it is dependent on adoption fees to keep operating. We have a great need for foster homes. If you are interested in providing foster care, and live within an hour of the Twin Cities, please e-mail us
Donations ALWAYS needed are: dog crates, puppy pee pads, natures miracle (for pet stain removal), Nutrisource brand puppy and dog food, Lysol disinfecting wipes, paper towels, large clean towels, dog toys, leashes, collars and gas cards to help with our transports.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Come on out and meet all of our great adoptable pups!! On alternating weekends we have meetings at the following locations:

Fetch Warehouse
783 Harding St. NE. Suite 150
Minneapolis, MN 55413
Adopt a Pet Shop
1555 Vicksburg Lane
Plymouth, MN
email to see who will be at what location and when.

Our Adoption Process...

We only adopt out animals to homes within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. Our adoption process begins with the return of our pre-adoption form, available upon request or on our website. After reviewing your application a meeting is scheduled between you and the pup, sometimes in the fosters home or at a neutral dog friendly place. If any resident dogs are in your home, it is recommended that the pups meet at this time. After the meeting a home visit is scheduled and if everything goes well with the visit the adoption is finalized at that time. A home visit by one of Safe Hands representitives is REQUIRED prior to finalizing any adoption and we must meet all members of the household where the pup will be living sometime during the adoption process.
