Angel's Story...
"My name is Angel. I am a chow and my foster mom is The Queen of England, because I heard her say, " If Angel is a chow, I am British royalty!" She says, "This is a chow mix, the BEST type of dog!" I am trying hard to learn this new place, because things have been changing so much in my life recently. I only had one home for all my seven years before this, but my owner died, it was very sad. The Mrs. is moving overseas and can not take me. Everyone was upset. I was hit by a car when I was young, but I never got help, so now I limp. The people were upset, what chance will Angel have, they say, if she goes to a shelter here in this part of the state?
I don't know how it happened, but some people agree to take me and help me find a new home. I was in a car and then a van for long, long time. All I got to take is my old green bed, but I do like it very much, and it helps me feel safe. I go from all I have ever known, to a new place with several other dogs. I growl at them a little, because I am scared, and with my leg, I can't run away if they would try to hurt me. The people let me know I can not do that, but they also try hard to help me feel safe. They put my bed in a room just for me, with my bowl and water. It is warm and calm. I like to be with the people too though, and they pet me and rub my belly and make me not so sad.
They say I need to "lose some weight" and only eat good dog food, not people food. I would like people food, but I am trying. I use the bathroom quickly when I go out, I do not mess in the house, that would be so bad! They have a cat here too, I know about them and I know not to chase them.
My foster mom says I am a sweet teddy bear. She says I am a perfect dog for someone who wants a quiet calm lovie dove. And she says I would be a blessing for someone that needs something to love and to be loved. I miss my owner I need someone to love and be mine too.

$175.00 adoption donation ($200 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough) , microchipped and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites if needed. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as surgeries and dentals. For more information or to apply to adopt at

Why Adoption is a Great Option

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Staunton already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Staunton breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chow Chow/Shepherd (Unknown Type) breeders who help with Chow Chow/Shepherd (Unknown Type) rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Staunton paves the way for another one to be saved.
