Finley is a 2 year old chihuahua mix. Finley in general is shy and scared. He ABSOLUTELY cannot be out on a tie out. He is terrified of leashes but we are slowly working with him to get used to it. He needs to have both a harness and collar. He hasn't tried to escape from me but we don't want to take that risk so he needs to be leashed all the time. When he's leashed inside that helps with helping him get used to it. If you have a fenced in yard you should still leash him and walk around the yard. You want to make sure he gets used to being on leash and learn to stay in the fenced area of the yard. He needs to be patiently worked with and walked. He gets scared so when you take him outside just take it slowly and let him go on his own terms. He does take time to come out of his shell and trust you, but once he does he's a brand new dog. He is such a lover and a cuddle bug. He loves playing with toys especially squeaky balls and will chase after them. He is super sweet and pretty playful when he comes out of his shell. Because of the leash issue he is learning to go outside to potty. We are treating him as if he's a puppy learning to go outside. We take him outside every hour or so. When he comes out of his crate he is immediately picked up and taken outside (he gets really excited and tinkles a little). He LOVES my resident dogs and doesn't seem to mind cats. He does amazing with everyone he's ever met. He does like to play growl and mouth but he never hurts anyone, he is very gentle. He is indifferent about car rides but does fairly good in them. He softly whines every once in a while and barks but nothing too annoying or loud. He is just an incredibly sweet dog and it hurts to let him go but he will find an amazing forever home to make happy.

All SAAP dogs and puppies are vet checked, UTD on vaccines, spayed/neutered, micro chipped, and given flea and heartworm preventatives as age appropriate.

About Stray Animal Adoption Program

About Our Rescue Group...

We are an all-volunteer 501(c)3 non profit organization. We are dedicated to the rescue of animals that are in need of a forever home. Our animals are fostered in homes where we provide love, food, medical care and socialization until adoption into a new loving home. We educate on the importance of spaying and neutering of all pets.

We ensure all animals have been spayed or neutered prior to adoption. They are micro-chipped, up to date on shots and on heartworm and anti-flea medications (as age appropriate). They are ready and waiting to start their new life with their fur-ever family. Could that be you?

We need your help to continue our mission. We rely solely on donations and fundraisers. All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of your donation will go towards the rescue, care, and medical needs of the animals.

Our Adoption Process...

You are required to sign a legally binding contact on your new pet. As part of that contract, should you no longer be able to keep the animal for any reason, the animal MUST be surrendered back to SAAP. This is to ensure the animal is placed back in foster care while we secure a new approved home for the animal. However, we always try to ensure that the initial placement is best for the pet and your family. We reserve the right to refuse any adoption.
