We at the ECAS think that it should be Rome's turn to find a home!  But not just any home will do for this special butterball. Rome is our only Feline Leukemia positive cat and he needs a home where he is either the only cat OR the other resident kitties are also Feleuk positive as this is a contagious disease to other felines that has no known cure. Rome came to us a couple winters ago looking like the loser from a Rocky Balboa fight!  Unfortunately due to his life on the streets and lack of fighting skills this is likely how he contracted the disease. We have cared for Rome all these months watching his health and although he does have the disease his only clinical sign is that his eyes occasionally water and he is sensitive to the light some days. He has lived in his own enclosure only able to look at the other kitties enjoying their play time.  So we think it's time for Rome to have a house to roam instead of a cage. If you are interested and able to give this big orange lover a home of his own please fill out an application at

About Emmet County Animal Shelter

About Our Shelter...

The ECAS is an all volunteer, no kill shelter. Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome pets in need due to neglect, abandonment, abuse or from simply not being wanted! We started in 2010 due to a need in our community. We are currently a foster based organization and we are currently building our new shelter facility. We work hand in hand with other rescue and shelters in the area to help out when and where we are needed.

Come Meet Our Pets...

Check out all of our pets online at or send in an application to meet a specific pet! Once our shelter is open for operation stop in during our open hours to visit with a fuzzy friend in person.

Our Adoption Process...

All interested parties must fill out an adoption application and be approved prior to adoption. If a family has currently, or in the recent past had pets then a veterinary reference is required. If not then two personal references are required. Our adoption fees for dogs range from $150-$300. Our adoption fee for cats is free will donation. After an adoption has been approved an adoption contract must be signed.
