My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are at least 18 years old and everyone in your household is on board adopting a puppy, call 651-645-4370. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy.

Sonia is a German Shepherd X who was born on about December 12. 2015. Mommy was a Shepherd X on the Standing Rock Indian Reservation. Her owner was not successful in placing the puppies in permanent homes so she surrendered them to PUP. When Sonia and her 3 litter mates arrived they had missed a few meals, but were eager to make up for lost time and quickly filled in. She currently weighs 22# and we anticipate her adult weight to be in the 60# range, but her adopter should be prepared to love her if she is smaller or larger than anticipated.

Sonia is social and out going and eager to spend time with people. She is good at doing her business on newspapers but has not yet begun formal house breaking.

The first 4 months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Her adopter must be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, meeting people clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good doggie social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store and puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes and trips to the off leash park are ideal learning opportunities.

Sonia has been wormed and had her first vaccinations. She will need two more routine vaccinations and rabies vaccination at the owner’s expense. Her adoption fee of $300 includes the cost of her spay if it is done by the PUP vet. PUP does place dogs outside the metro area but a firm plan must be in place for her spay. We do not ship.
